My husband comes up with the lame excuse that the bags are weaker once they've been used and therefore it's better to use new ones which are stronger!! I've got myself a couple of folding bags that I take in and use if I'm doing a small shop and I do insist on re-using bags, despite his protests! But I might invest in Bags for Life and then DH can't moan as they're strong and if they break you get a free replacement!!Official DFW Nerd Club #20  Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts

Mr T's bags for life are not as strong as they were.I now have 8 all collected at different times. The first one I bought (The Monet one 1999) is still going strong but I handed in 2 yesterday which were much more recent and they are stretched in places from 1 shop!0 -
I reuse about 6 bags a week in my tesco metro and i've only got 6 points in total!! When I say I've got my own bags they look at me like I'm speaking another language! I've started shopping in Sainsbury's recently as tesco's never have any food left.0

I always take back old plastic bags to re-use wherever I do my weekly shopping. I always carry a plastic bag folded up in my hand bag in case i make any purchases during the week.
I also encourage my other half to SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS!0 -
KleptisV, that's another thing - fruit & veg bags. Why do people but a bunch of bananas in a bag? You don't eat the skin, and they're already attached to each other!!
the last time i went to Tesco i didnt put a single item of fruit or veg in a bag, i bought the loose stuff rather than the BOGOF nets of oranges etc. It was fun going throught the checkout with all those single items but the checkout lady didnt seem to mind at all. And as for carriers, i always take my own where i can, and if im doing a smaller shop i tend to use my rucksack. I also use carriers as bin liners but ive been looking into "upgrading" to biodegradable liners.
thats my two penneth'

I did my shopping at tesco.com last week, they always use more bags, but this time it was ridiculous!! For one weeks shopping for a family of five, tesco.com used ................56 carrier bags!!!!!!!!!! Even the driver was embarrassed!! I usually use 10-12 bags for life on a weekly shop, so this was totally excessive. I called to complain, hopefully whoever did the shopping has had their knuckles rapped!0

If everyone complained I suppose that would get the message through
I was shopping at asda last week, when I said to the cashier I was using my recycled bags she kindley gave me a bag for life and said that was for being environmentaly friendly:rotfl:
What with all the plastic bags all stashed in a big box though? It's better to reuse them first before recycle. Let's face it - it's only been their own food that has been in it???became debt free December 060 -
I have my bags-for-life scattered about my car. If I ever forget to take them into the shop i "punish" myself by buying new ones. I have only had to do this a few times now. When we go to local market we use one of those collapsable crates that have wheels and a handle, which I bought from last years Southport Flower Show.
I also take a perverse pleasure in using my Tesco bags in Sainsburys and vice-versa0 -

So do I!!!
I reuse the little fruit and veg plastic bags as sandwich bags for my lunch box. It saves money buying sandwich bags and recycles at the same time. Our dream has come true...0
