i try to reuse, i've even bought trendy folding cloth bags. but more often or not, i forget to take them with me. I went to tesco about 2 weeks back and i took 4 carrier bags with me. i assumed the green points would be put on automatically so took my shopping and walked away from checkout. when i checked the receipt, the cashier hadnt given me my 4 green points, so i went to customer services and them woman did it for me there. damn cashier!!

Mr T's bags for life are not as strong as they were.I now have 8 all collected at different times. The first one I bought (The Monet one 1999) is still going strong but I handed in 2 yesterday which were much more recent and they are stretched in places from 1 shop!

i agree with completely. i got a coupon for a free one, so i claimed it. i'm a school teacher, so i've been using it to carrying exercise books around. i've not had it that long and the plastic is starting to stretch around the handle. tut tut tut

tesco finest reuseable carriers are carp!!!

I bought the one with the plastic handle bar bits and it collapsed when I went to take my groceries out of the car. That's what I get for forgetting my sainsburys jute bags!!!
  • I use one of these http://www.chumba.com/SHOPbag.html
(made by the thegoodbook) plus a larger shopping bag if necessary

if I forget or end up having to get extra bags I use them for the recycling.

I exchanged an item of clothing in M&S yesterday, for a different size - I took it in it's carrier bag (guilty!).

I was about to put the new item back in the same bag when the sales assistant snatched it out of my hand saying "I'll give you a nice fresh bag" and proceded to try and put the item into a new bag.

I said that I was happy to keep the other one, but she said "but it's all crumpled". I told her that I was happy with a crumpled bag, so she then put the item back in the crumpled bag and (wait for it....) screwed up the 'fresh' one and put it in the bin!

It was only on my way out that I noticed a sign up about trying to reduce the use of plastic bags and that from now on customers would be asked if they wanted a bag or not!

They are actually clubcard points - they just call them green points because they are awarded for 'green' things.

I can beat that Jap200! At Christmas I took my now very tatty looking reusable bags into M&S and told the assistant I didn't need a bag and was told that it was more than her job was worth to not give me a bag. They had been told that they MUST give each customer a bag, it has the logo on etc! I was so dumbfounded I just took the new bag!

We reuse bags, got a mixture and we also use Sainsbury's and Tesco's bags for life in each others stores Lol. We also reuse egg boxes as we do more and more shopping at the local farmers market. Some stall holdres see we have our own bags, but generally I have to pipe up that I have my own. The bread gets put in a paper bag first, so i recycle that. :T

All things are marketing led, profit is the name of the game, so it is not surprising that the supermarkets are jumping on the green band wagon - but regardless of what they say about being more environmentally aware and responsive, I still bought fair trade bananas in Tesco's yesterday packaged in shrink wrap polythene!

Another excuse I have been given, when wanting to put a single item into my own shopping bag is that they have to give you a bag so you won't be suspected of shop lifting. If you do insist on leaving the plastic bag in the store, make sure you have a receipt. ;)
