    Hey Lula hun!

I hope you're feeling better today as we watch the rugby on all afternoon and evening yeah!

Looks like I'll have to start doing some more exercise other than running to increase my other fitness as it looks like I might be going up Ben Nevis in a couple of months - not sure yet but I hope I am and if I make it I will buy every possible cheap souvenir to celebrate (tea towel and fridge magnet and car sticker anyone?)

Well how strange. I too bought oatbran today for the first time. Not for breakfast though, as part of my stupid idea of making present this year, I've had to do something for my friend tonight and have decided on a cheese gift thing so have bought some cheese (cheating I know) and have some onion chutney on the go at the moment and am about to make some oatcakes to go with it.

    A kind of foodie gift!

I've also bought dinner for tonight so I reckon he'll be happy enough with me!

So let me know if you get bored of eating the oatbran and want to make oatcakes - cheese is full of protein right?!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

    Hello everyone,

Taxi - I've just woken up from a very self indulgent snooze :o

Hey fedupandskint - BEN NEVIS  hats off to you girl (YAYYYYY we scored) & thanks, I'll take any freebie going :rotfl:.

Hey Buffy - hope all ok with you, havent been to yours for a while either, sorry :o. this diet is the Dukan Diet. I'd never heard of it until Goblin at work brought the book in & started telling me about it. I did some internet research on it & as I'm a super cheapskate & certainly not wasting my hard earned amazon points on some diet book so am gathering all my info for free off the net, although I did pretend to sign up to the official site ( https://www.dukandiet.co.uk) to get my ideal weight & an idea of how long it would take to get there. I costs £70 to join up & you then get recipes & a daily pep talk, there are also 2 books but as there are loads of diaries & a forum on the internet I dont see the point :p. I'm just using it as a kick start to get me motivated. If I can lose a whole stone in just 2 months then I'll be happy.

    > Just had a text from DD to say that they've just left the skating rink & she didnt fall over once :j. She was very nervous before going so no doubt we'll have to go again soon <

Makeup - I think your foodie gift idea is fab :D. I've hear a bit about oatcakes & again Goblin eats them & has a stash in her filing cupboard - which she only brings out after I've gone home :(. Cheese does indeed have protein, but sadly rather to much fat for this stage of the regime, but I'd love a recipe as I think the porridge may become rather boring. I cant wait to have some veg - should be on tuesday :j

I'm disappointed about not exercising for a week, but I cant hold the weights & just felt a bit wobbly. I'm not meant to be doing more than a brisk walk during this attack phase but come tuesday when I can add veg in I'll be back with Davina on the superfit. No doubt, that will help to speed things up a bit too.

I've had chicken & cottage cheese for tea & a fat free yoghurt sprinkled with mixed spice for pudding, far healthier than the usual spoon of honey in a greek style yog I like.

I got a freebie lipgloss with glamour mag so happy with that & the gorgeous purple suede belt I won arrived today. Very nice but quite large so will have to be a hip belt.

    Morning all,

I didnt have the best night's sleep - awake at 3am with aching legs & it took ages to drop off again. I'm hoping that is just the after effects of afternoon napping as I cant be doing with that if it's a diet side affect. I'm very fortunate to be able to sleep well most nights & I need to.

I didnt feel quite so listless today when I woke up & the headache is now just a dull background thing. I have lost 3lbs though, which kind of makes it all worth it.

I've bee dong a lot of research on various diets including the south beach one that Souk uses & low glycaemic diets. I actually think I prefer that to the one I'm trying. I'm not liking not being able to eat fruit for ages.

The thing I have discovered is that most of the regimes contradict eachother in terms of what fruit & veg an be eaten. However, the one thing they all agree on is that potatoes & any other sugary or starchy stuff is bad when trying to lose weight. Essentially - lay off the bread, sugar, pasta, hobnobs & chocolate :(

Plans for today involve doing something about my hair, tackling the ironing mountain & hopefully getting outside to do stuff in the garden.

Payday tomorrow :j & not a moment too soon as I'm counting fridays waitrose shop at £44.97 in March's grocery budget.

    Bye for now

Sounds like there's a real detox element involved, Lula, is that right? And its got to be right that sugary stuff is a no no - I have very little these days - I have manuka honey on my porridge, and a handful of dried fruit (okay a couple of handfuls) every now and then, and thats it, nothing else at all.

I haven't been on your diary since before I went to London, and I'm *loving* your description of the trainers jumping into your hand :) and I agree with you about the T shirt thing too.

  • My experience of dieting is very limited - usually the 'doing too much and not eating properly' method - but the GI one is the most sensible one I have seen and the only one recommended by a practitioner I trust. I suspect that your summary is about right and the rest of the complex rules are for distraction!

Love the sound of the Converse, have been thinking about those myself as want something to go with jeans for summer :)

I :heartpuls:heartpuls Waitrose - I have a roast dinner in the oven that will feed me for at least 2 days but only needed the effort of putting in the oven and chopping the veg... I think they may be the only way I survive the rest of the MSc in reasonable health!

Hope you got to your garden - it chucked down here so I only managed about 20 min!

Yep 'tis true & very ashamed I am as well.

My wages have gone into the bank :j

I however, have been overspending & forgetting about things that need to be paid for, ie the cheque for childminder that hasnt gone through yet so that's £145 I hadnt counted .

The there's the £26.99 for my converse, to be shortly followed by another £ 28.99 for the ones I've just bought for DD. Then there's the matter of ebay P&P that I have been NOT counting in the Clothes Challenge, which is fair enough. What seems to have escaped my tiny mind though, is the fact that PayPal does still count it as spending & I've just totted up my P&P spends far this year ... £42.03  Some of the items are only a couple of pounds, but DDs converse are £4.95 & of course there was the £10 non-fitting red shoe P&P debacle of January

Oh heck, I'm sabotaging myself again as I've actually spent far more Clothes Challenge cash than I have earned, a lot more :wall:

    This ebay frenzy STOPS NOW

I have to buy a whole new school uniform & goodness knows how many pairs of trainers & shoes for DD.

    Moving on swiftly :

My neighbour has given me tow bags full of books - about 3 of them so that's my reading monster entertained for the rest of the year. I have 3 of my own unread & the library is just a 5 minute walk away too.

I did get to the garden, but only for a few minutes as it also rained here so I emptied the scraps into the compost bin & was pleased to note that dear Connie is about to blossom :)

I did have a small cup of coffee withour sugar & although it wasnt all cuddly & indulgent like my usual ones, it was perfectly fine & seemed to give me a bit of energy too.

I managed to clean the kitchen & bathroom, wash the floors & do all the ironing :)

Lovely friend popped round to give my hair a quick trim & it's looking a decent colour again too. No cost as I'm taking her out for coffee & cake next week :D

Not quite sure how to manage eating at work tomorrow but I think I'll take in a pot of cottage cheese with chives for lunch. If I make sure I have the tasty porridge for breakfast that should keep me going until I get home. I'm only meant to have one coffee & that will be hard, although I'm finding it easy to drink 2 litres of water everyday. We have a water cooler at work but I hate it as it's too cold, so I might take my own bottle in & that should help stave off any coffee cravings.

I'm glad I feel so much more energised & back to normal today as I dont think I could have coped much longer with the horrible lethargy.

I'm away to bed now so will deal with payments to CC tomorrow

    G'night
    xx

    That diet sounds so harsh!!!

Well I quite like oatcakes, as they're oats they're low GI (or is it high?? the good one anyway) and they last for ages in the cupboard so don't go off like bread.

And you can have a couple for a snack with marmite or low fat cheese spread. Or even peanut butter (if you buy the good one with nothing added - good source of protein and although do have fats in them are good fats and processed differently to the bad trans-fats in things like biscuits)
I've got my own flat :j:j

    Well good evening to all,

I have wrestled myself away from the brink of disaster, doom & destitution.

I've been wracking my poor little brian all day as to how I can manage to fill up my car & do all the necessary shopping & fill fund alongside making the necessary payments to Uncle R

The first step was to stop pretending that the crisp £20 note in my purse was mine & admit that it actually belonged in the bank as it was leftover clothes fund cash from our shopping trip. As I have £60 worth of footwear about to exit my account, I needed to get some cash in there quick. On my way home from work I stopped off at mini post office & handed it over to the nice man behind the counter in exchange for a receipt :)

More thought, calculations & a cup of peppermint tea followed.

I had Boots points vouchers due to expire today & wasnt going to bother to use them until I saw an ad on tv last night revealing that my fave skincare stuff was on a 2 for 3 offer. So, we headed to nearby village & I stocked up on goodies, saving myself £19 by getting 3rd item free & also netting myself over £6 in points :D that doesnt alter the fact that I actually spent £62.65 in there, but it helps. A bit.

Next stop Waitrose (again) to stock up on more health delights such as chicken, mackerel & cottage cheese & also some lovely luscious fresh veg :j. Total spend was £ 21.89p.

<More about the eating regime in a min, just need to continue with the money bit first >

Came home, positively luxuriating in not having to do home-job , had our meal, despatched DD to bath while I chatted with her BFs mum about an exciting but top secret idea, watched Benders ( shocking habit :o), then watched interesting programme about books.

This was followed by DD & myself discussing the pros & cons of a kindle or similar. Her thoughts are that she'd like to try one but she would miss the smell & feel of a book, thinks the actual book jacket is irreplaceable & if anyone has seen the Clarice Bean books you'll know exactly what she means.

She also came up with an aspect that I'd never considered. She wonders how long you can safely read one for, bearing in mind that we are told to take regular breaks from gaming or using laptops, pcs etc ???. We can happily read a book for hours, but is sit possible to do the same with an e-reader without causing yourself eye strain ?

I could never replace books with one. Never. For me they are part of the fabric & familiarity of my home. Apart from the bookcase which tends to hold all the books we rarely use, there are little piles of them all over the place. I have 2 little piles on either side of my bed. There are the books on the table in the living room, the garden ones that we plot & dream with. There are the recipe books in the kitchen ( ok, they dont get used much either but they are part of the furniture & decor) & finally there are the books on the table in the hall waiting to go back to the library.

Replace all that history of DDs childhood, ( & mine) that record of our expanding minds & interests with just one soul less, colourless little device ?

    I think not.

Whimsical rambling now over ... back to the money.

Having spent a bit already & then done my calculations as to all that needs to be paid in the next few days, I realised that I would have just £114 to buy fuel & live on for the rest of the month :rotfl:.

Yes, it probably could be done, but it sure makes me miserable & I do wonder whether the recent ebay frenzy has something to do with having felt so deprived in January.

I was pondering on the pile of papers on the table & came across the letter to say the rent is going up in April ... next thing I know this happened >

It then ocurred to to me that I never used to pay the rent a month in advance as when I was just doing home-job & getting paid weekly I coudnt manage it. I concluded that there is absolutely no reason why on earth I shoudnt revert back to paying the rent weekly again. I checked all the paperwork & it clearly states that as long as it is paid in advance, it can be weekly, fortnightly, 4 weekly or monthly.

I immediately logged in to banking to change my standing order to weekly rather than monthly paymentd & hey presto my cashflow problem is solved :j Having thought about this further, it makes far more sense for my money to sit in my bank account until required, rather in the landlords :p

My next action was to make a payment to Uncle Richard : £150 slashed off the total which is now £1350.

It's true what Mr :money: says, there's always a solution to money problems :D.

Will have to do the eating regime revelations tomorrow, it's past my bed time

    G'night
    xx
