Great ... you'll get a lot of use out of it I'm sure.
I do wonder about going for high capacity cards, even though prices are very good. Considering how many images of high JPG quality you can fit on a 256Mb, and then you can transfer them to a computer when you get home, I suspect a lot of the space will be wasted for many people. I would go for 2 x 256mb's as risk of damage/corruption reduced by having two and there is loads of room on them. Of course, 1GB is perfect for short video ... but does anyone want to use this camera for video? I appreciate this approach may be as expensive, or even more, than larger cards. Maybe safer and more flexible tho'0 -
I recently purchased a second hand FZ20, and have been extremely happy with it, The zoom is fantastic, very impressive and with my current stress levels, the image stabilisation is 'very' handy !
I took a picture of the moon, a month ago resting against my window ledge as I dont have a tripod or anything, I was pretty impressed with the result. Check it out here http://www.dbws.net/pics/moon.jpg

Can you confirm, please, if it's desirable to re-charge the Panasonic battery at every opportunity, like from 85% charged back up to 100%, rather than less frequently from say 15% charged back up to 100% - I mean from the point of view of maximising the life of the battery. It's a pity the camera doesn't take ordinary batteries as an option.

It might be better to get a spare battery I do with my Minolta got a spare battery from Ebay and carry it around all the time not that I have needed it much I can get 400+ photos with LCD screen on with no problems.
That photo of the moon looked a little blurry to me, have you just used the optical zoom, digital, both or blown the picture up?

I don't think these Li-on batteries are affected or otherwise by charging effects, but I'm not an expert on batteries. I just tend to anticipate my expected use and if I know the battery is a bit down then I'd charge it if I was expecting to take lots of shots or use lots of flash. I like an easy life :-) Sure, be better if it took AA's, but then the camera would be quite a bit bigger to make room for them. battery on mine has good life, better than I'd expect with AA's. Swings and roundabouts, eh!0 -
Looks very good, am thinking about it, particularly as my current one isnt that good, pictures look grey and washed out and every time I have something to sell on ebay I have to take the item to the brightest part of my flat for best pics, but colours still look grey. I have a Samsung digimax 3.0 pixel camera, very basic compared to this one!0

Personally for these things I've always made my own battery pack up
buy a battery holder from maplin (CL15R as an example, holds 4xAA)
then use that plugged into the DC IN charging jack
the AA holders fit in your pocket well and are ideal as a cheap alternative,
or, use the C, or D cell batteries to create a 'charger' for your camera if you are going to be away from the mains for a while!money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)
