Good for you ... hope it proves to be a great choice. I was sure you'd get the Fuji S5500.
My view is this is a camera for keeping long term as even when digital SLR's and lenses become affordable many of us will always need a top notch palm sized super zoom camera for when we don't want to carry the big lenses and stuff around.0 -
Hi Condyk
Yes decided to go for it after much consideration, it was the image stabiliser
that did it no good having a high optical zoom if you can't keep a steady hand, I know it's less megapixels than the Fuji but higher megapixels don't always produce a better picture, also the reviews seemed that bit better for the Panasonic, I'm not going to be printing out poster size images anyway and someone posted earlier that it would easily give you a pretty good 7x5 which is the biggest I’m likely to print anyway
Very pleased with the look of it, will have a play with it tomorrow, to late now
Thanks for the advice
Bye for now

Hi All,
Just to say that my camera arrived today and boy, is it fun.
It'll take me about 10 months to find out how to use all of it's features but in basic mode it does what it's supposed to but it looks real impressive.
I can REALLY show off now.
Definitely have to upgrade the memory though.

I just received mine today. It is a beautiful camera and not as bulky as I was imagining. It is relatively light in weight, will certainly have fun trying it out.
Of course there is now a couple of things I will need for it and was wondering if anyone can advise the best deals on a spare battery Panasonic CGA-S002E 7.2V 680mAh or other manufacture's equivalent.
Secondly, a camera bag to fit.
Thanks and regards,

The Delsey are meant to be good bags. Another make which I have for my Minolta is Lowepro (has plenty of padding)
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
These are both good cameras at very good prices. In my view you're getting an extra £50 's worth with the Panasonic. I was disappointed with the Dimage's plasticy feel-but I haven't handled the Panasonic. I would definitely recommend handling each camera before purchasing. These are not very compact cameras in the put-in-your-pocket at a party sense but are rather digital SLR's.
Don't buy either yet; get down to a good camera shop and have a play!if i had known then what i know now0 -

I use a Lowepro Nova 1. It's too big in some ways, but perfect for the spare cards, battery, water bottle, jaffa cakes ;-) Find similar on ebay as cheaper there.
There is a good resource for the camera here, including some battery info:
