I went to Meadowhall in Sheffield last Saturday to get my FZ3. At £199.99 this is a brilliant buy (also managed to cut down on delivery costs, although £2.50 fare to get there).

A few interesting comments, the lass behind the till said that these cameras were flying off the shelves at the moment.

Also, a guy had been in a few days ago to buy a camera bag and somehow it had an FZ3 in the bag. The lass was saying they were ready to wipe it off as a loss, but the honest man rang them up and told them, what a gent! She even said that if it was her she'd have kept it!

    Regards,

  • Unfortunately when I rang photooptix tonight, they still had some in stock...so I had to order one!

Went into a local 'quality camera shop' today and was told they had tried to buy up the stock of this model but were outbid by photooptix - was told it was a fantastic buy. Went into the Panasonic shop who would not price match - was told it was a fantastic buy.

It was about time I upgraded my 2 month old HP M407 (for £19.99)!

Many thanks to the OP and to all the very reassuring contributors.

Yeah but come on, by the time you would of paid Shipping + Handling from the USA, i doubt that you get the camera for under £199.99. In fact i know you wouldn't

Anyway 199.99-£172 isn't exactly a massive difference is it!

Just saying that stuff in USA is nearly always cheaper than in UK.

But would I want to live in the USA ?

Oh dear oh dear. Never heard of Value Added Tax, which (along with import duty) will be slapped on by Customs?

If that's the cheapest you can find it in the US, it's an even better bargain here than I thought.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

Sorry - I know I am under the influence of Tesco cheapo wine but it has been noted in the past on other Forums that Talkshop's name could be made more appropriate if you replace the last 2 letters of his/her name with another couple of letters.

I don't see the relevance ... the fact is we're here and the £172 camera is there. Stuff isn't always cheaper in the US either. Like here, there are all kinds of suppliers and all kinds of prices for every item. If you shop around in US the likelyhood is that you'll find many items cheaper, but not always.

As has been mentioned you then add on approx 20% to get it through customs, unless you're lucky, plus whatever the delivery company adds on the 'process' the VAT/Duty fee, plus the P&P.

The only way it's cheaper is to buy cheaper there and then fly back and smuggle it in through customs, which is NOT recommended.
  • Want a cheap digital camera? Watch LIdl supermarkets for BARGAINS sold on Thursdays.Every few months they sell NYMEX digital 4MegaPixel.Had ours for a year now and going well, perhaps not the easiest to use but OK.Thirsty on batteries(are'nt they all?) so get some rated at 2300 Ma.

Lidl's let you know a few days before( by means of an instore broadsheet) what is coming.Got this computer in there.......

The store usually give good guarantees and the quality of the goods is fine.

    Good luck
