People tend to be very polarised about battery types (pun not intended). While lithium ions are more expensive than NiMH types, and you can't use dry (disposable) cells in their place in an emergency, they are likely to be considerably lighter than AAs.

Regarding the advice to make a "charger" out of C or D cells plugged into the external power socket: I am assuming the camera is capable of charging batteries here. I am just a bit concerned that it has proper charging circuitry inside it, which will limit the charging current and cut it off once the battery is charged. Some devices rely on the external power supply to perform this function. But with that caveat, it's a good idea!

As for this camera - arrgh - it's very tempting. Part of me was hoping that by this morning they'd have totted up the orders over the weekend and run out of them, but it's still on the website. I bought an Olympus D5050 from Morgan Computers less than a year ago, and my sensible side is telling me I can't justify the Panasonic!

This is a totally different camera - it's designed to be a pocketable "point and shoot", and only has a 3x zoom (and no image stabiliser, of course, as it won't need one) - and that link no longer brings up anything less than £165 (or £170 in stock).

The things which annoy me about Sony products are the "brand engineering" factor (you pay for the name), and their use of proprietary systems such as Memory Sticks on cameras, and ATRAC audio coding on music players. Fortunately in the latter case they are beginning to see sense, and their latest music players handle MP3. But you pay more per megabyte for a memory stick than for a Secure Digital or Compact Flash card.

Does anyone who ordered one of these remember whether they got a confirming email or not?

The delivery cost is quite high - how long did it take?

havent received a confirming email, so rang up

£8 delivery (near enough) is pretty good considering its CITYLINK delivery and fully insured (and it arrived today, but i was in work :-(, never mind, its being delivered tomorrow now!!)

even royalmail special delivery is £6.55, add the cost of the bloke packing the camera, and the materials he uses, and the woman processing the order/writing the labels

fair enough, it #may# be a little more than ebuyer, etc, but i can state that they are not making #much# profit from postage

(i was a heavy ebayer last year, a powerseller for 9 months! packing materials are NOT cheap you know)
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

No confirming e-mail ... don't think the ecommerce is too sophisticated ;-) A few days after the parcel arrives you get a hand writen envelop with reciept in it. Kinda cool in some sort of ye olde worlde way :-)

I got two and same price delivery. Don't think they're profiting unfairly personally when you add all the bits up.

Thanks for that. It's probably better not getting an email and getting the goods rather than confirming emails and no goods.

Not too worried about the delivery charge as such, but if it was a big firm I suppose it would be very fast delivery & as i was out half the day, thought I may have missed it.

It might be better to get a spare battery I do with my Minolta got a spare battery from Ebay and carry it around all the time not that I have needed it much I can get 400+ photos with LCD screen on with no problems.

That photo of the moon looked a little blurry to me, have you just used the optical zoom, digital, both or blown the picture up?
It is a little blurry but theres a lot of detail on there i think, it was done at full 48X digital zoom and held in my hand, from inside my house so I was pretty impressed that I could see the craters and things like that.

Re' Batteries, I agree with shrek, Ebay comes to the rescue you can get them for just over 5 pounds so its worth getting a couple and keeping them charged up and having them in in your carry case just in case.
