Prone also means ' to have a tendency towards' obv, prone to mistakes etc. I read that bit just as a rhyming lead into the next bit tbh... ie has a tendency to lament its status lost ... etc
but lots of things to go on0 -

Agreed. It could be the way it is written, but appearing at the end (apart from rhyming) is what led me to think posture as opposed to tendency. Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -

Yes, so did I.0 -
Thanks for copying it out Cmdr_Bond, but I think that you have made a typo in the penultimate line. It should read scale not sclae.
Didn't want this to confuse anybody that wasn't already totally and utterly confused anyway.:rotfl:0 -

I know it is going over it all over again, but I am going back to the first 2 lines. Starting with Budapest, I am going through the list of twins/sisters/&c to find those who were once capitals, but are no longer.
Budapest
Florence/Italy - From 1865 to 1870 the city was also the capital of the Kingdom of Italy. Currently only the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany. It is WSW of Budapest and NNW of Rome, the current capital of Italy.
Krakow/Poland - Was the capital of Poland between 1038 to 1596, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Krakow from 1846 to 1918; and the capital of Krakow Voivodeship from the 14th century to 1999. It is now the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is mostly NNE of Budapest and SSW of Warsaw, the current capital of Poland.
Košice/Slovakia - In the 17th century it was the capital of Upper Hungary (what is now Slovakia). It is NE of Budapest and ENE of Bratislava, the current Capital of Slovakia.
New York/USA - Was capital of the USA between 1785 and 1790. It is WSW of Budapest and NE of Washington DC, the cyrrent capital of the USA.
Karlovy Vary
No twins
Aguascalientes
No twins
Looking at that, Budapest does seem to be the best starting point. The question is where to from there.
Of the twins shortlisted above, all bar Krakow are further north than their current capital.
Re the Stele:
Rome: The Obelisk of Axum or the Rome Stele.
Bratislava: Stele is Romanian for stars (note plural) - The Starý most is the oldest still-standing bridge over the Danube river in Bratislava.
Washington DC - The washington monument is an Obelisk NOT a stele.
Thats all for nowNot as green as I am cabbage looking0 -
Got to say that I am not impressed with the email that I had from these guys today. Have they not heard of blind carbon copy? They included the email addresses of a whole other bunch of people!0

Typical - may I ask what you emailed them about? Or is that being too nosey?
I have yet to have a response to any email I have ever sent them (mainly regarding the lack of a solution 3 weeks in &tc.)Not as green as I am cabbage looking0 -

I didn't email them. They emailed me to say that I had to re-register with them, something to do with the old site being pulled and rebranded to due serious hacking attempts.
There is a message about it on their site.0
