  • Taupe is a Dark Gray ,beige/brown colour I think. Its name derives from the European mole Talpa europaea.

See the earlier posts for thoughts on the 38th Parallel too :)

The phrasing of the 1st sentence is odd. I was wondering if any clone was an anagram or contained the place but I could only get a Dodgy 'Ceylon' from it and no further trail

I agree. I wondered if clone could mean twin and we were looking for one of the places that Budapest is twinned with, but if so, why say "any" clone, because that would be a specific twin town, not "any" that we were looking for. Budapest is twinned with lots of cities, but none that I am aware are former capital cities.

Just thinking aloud here, but if you read the rhyme aloud, "any clone" sounds like N.E. clone. I was wondering therefore if the clone could be in a North Easterly direction.

I cannot actually find Novembers clue on the treasure hunt website today (although I'm sure it was there yesterday underneath October). Is anyone else having problems seeing it on there? I have been having login issues and don't know if it is connnected to this.

yep it's still there for me if I click 'your clues' on the left hand side (not under October's clue?). the log in has been a bit iffy though, says invalid token but then I press the back button and I'm logged it fine :)

I like the idea that Budapest is our starting point - it seems the most relevant considering the line "City of Spas".

Budapest is twinned with several cities. Notably Vienna, Austria as Budapest and Vienna were the two capital cities of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

Here is a list of Budapests twins

    Vienna, Austria
    Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina
    Sofia, Bulgaria
    Beijing, P.R.o. China
    Zagreb, Croatia
    Paris, France
    Berlin, Germany
    Frankfurt am Main, Germany
    Jakarta, Indonesia
    Tel Aviv, Israel
    Florence, Italy
    Warsaw, Poland
    Lisbon, Portugal
    Bucharest, Romania
    Kosice, Slovakia
    Daejeon, South Korea
    Bangkok, Thailand
    Lviv, Ukraine
    Fort Worth (Texas), USA
New York City (New York), USA

Budapest is also partnered with Krakow, Poland

Of those, the one that jumped off the page was New York - which on closer inspection I found WAS the Capital of the USA between 1785 and 1790

That is a possibility, but if I am right with NYC, it is actually further south of Budapest.

Looking back at all that, I moved to Poland. Krakow WAS the capital of Poland between 1038 to 1596, the capital of the Grand Duchy of Krak!w from 1846 to 1918; and the capital of Krak!w Voivodeship from the 14th century to 1999. It is now the capital of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.

Krakow is North and a little East of Budapest.

Unfortunately it is also south of Warsaw :(

I went from there to it's partner Krakow (according to Wikipedia) which used to be capital of Poland until Warsaw, which has a steel industry, took over. However Warsaw is north of Krakow not south and I think the spelling of stele might refer to these

I said this and initially wondered if they might have made a mistake with direction (cashhunt did once), as everything else fitted but I can't make anything from it so I think Krakow/Warsaw is wrong.

other places I've found referred to as the city of spas are Karlovy Vary / Carlsbad in the Czech Republic and Aguascalientes in Mexico
  • Still on budapest but The NY line is interesting. For some reason it just 'feels' american in nature this month! I also looked briefly earlier at pittsburgh/pennsylvania due to the steele/stele link and the (Fore?)Fathers Pitt and Penn, and came across New York up there somewhere which was v interesting,as opposed to the NY we know now.

Lost the train of thought on this but will look again later tonight.

    Also renniannens other spa possibilities
