okaaaayyyyyy...boiler update - have just spoken to British Gas who want an immediate payment of £189 just for an engineer to come and look at the boiler :eek::eek: that could go up to £399 if the work takes more than 2 hours :eek::eek: (although I am sure it won't)...although if it takes less than 30mins, then I get part of the £189 refunded.... I really have no idea how competitive this pricing is but I think I will wait until tomorrow to call a couple of local people as it seems expensive to me (they don't mention those prices on the advert!). Looking like a NSD for me as I don't plan to leave the house. Will update you all later though ...

    O Kerri poor you!!!!!!!!!!!!

you know what worries me about British Gas - if they come out and the boiler is quite old or not up to standard they will just condem it.

Def try and have a shop around but be a bit careful (loo had been watching too many watchdog programmes!) it is good to try and get someone that soeone you know has used.... easier said than done.

    Good luck!!!

Ohhh, that's not good as I suspect this boiler (the HW/CH one...not me :rotfl:) is old by BG standards. These houses were built about 15yrs ago so it's quite possible this is the original boiler.

There is a company my mum uses locally but she's not overly impressed with them (thinks they are quite expensive) but there's a couple of numbers in the phone book I'll call tomorrow - on the gassafe register and corgi registered too. :) (been watching those same watchdog programmes too!)

Strange you should say, as I've been musing on this myself. I tend to get a bit confused-smiley-003.gif when folk first sign up, in case they should think they need to aspire to the same amount of nsds as us who are both old hands at the Challenge & have a totally different lifestyle at home.

The advice I give most is to have a good think about the spends you will or will not include for the purpose of this Challenge. For me, I don't count the bills for power, water, rates etc (oops! showing me age calling them 'rates' :p) but do include food. That came about because I was very guilty of popping in for a pint of milk & coming out with three trolleys-full of stuff I'd get 'while I'm here' :doh:All that added up to me spending an absolute fortune on things that I didn't really need until later in the month, or if at all!

I also don't count emergency spends like a prescription for something other than regular meds, dental treatment, parking for hospital appts--that sort of thing--providing I don't spend on anything else that day. I try to get fuel for the car while shopping anyway & put up money for window cleaner & things on a spendy day, so in effect I've 'spent' it before the guy comes for his money. It helps that The Offspring are all grown too so I don't have school trips & stuff to worry about.

To sum up then, Folk should make a decision of what they are hoping to achieve & not pay too much notice of others totals. We all have different ideas on what or is not important for us & our families, so it really doesn't matter if it's 3 or 23 nsds you aim for as long as it means something to you. HTH x

i havent been including direct debits or anything, or my tesco.com spend untill it comes out of account :D i think i might change my rules slightly, if i plan what ill need to get eg bread, milk or bits of money for kids at school ill take it out of atm and only count it once- only if i make it last as long as i can, buying anything non essential counts as a seperate spend:rotfl: it didnt help that this month me and 2 of the kids needed new shoes and me and hubby had to have new slippers so that was 3 spend days there:eek: the shoe shop will love me this month:rotfl: i have also bought lots on ebay which i havent been counting as i used paypal money which isnt real money really:T

    am i a cheat???

Hi Sunnylooloo I hope this finds you well. Work and a training course I have been on have taken up loads of my time lately, so I'm just trying to get through the chaos:mad: Other than that though, I'm grand.
