Worse still, have you seen what those hens eat and then we eat their eggs . Mine are true free range, they fight over the cats leftovers - dead shrews etc - and they don't waste any protein the dogs leave so you have to follow the dogs round the garden with a spade. Truely repulsive sometimes.

I wouldn't eat the meat, but that is just me.

Very true. Mine are true free rangers too and it's certainly not all pecks of corn and yummy veg peelings they eat. I've never seen anything as rabbid as a chicken eating a dead mouse. _pale_
  • I had this dilemma a which ago... I had a bag of shin beef defrosting in the microwave... and someone took it out and left it on the side!

I'm sitting in the front room and I head a 'thud' 'rustle' 'thud' 'rustle' 'thud' 'rustle'...

went to have a look and it was the cat dragging a bag of beef from the kitchen to the bedroom!!!

LOL he's only torn the bag a little so I cooked up the meat and made a lovely pie... and we live!!!!!!!

So YES I would eat it! No second thoughts!!

Ps. Unfortunately I catch my cats on the counter and they know it's not worth their lives and run FAST... but I also use an antibacterial surface cleaner before cooking!!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

oh dear - quite a few people on here I wouldnt dare invite round for dinner! my sons cat has had quite a few licks of items I have put on the worktop ready to cook - NOT that I encourage him but the bu99er makes stealth attacks by sneaking into the dining room, jumping on a chair then sort of slithering through the open part onto the worktop. Last night I was defrosting prawns and he smelled them and made a full on attack, actually trying to bat the seive out of my hand as i was holding it under the tap (as usual I had forgotten to take them out in time to thaw naturally in the fridge. so I turned around and put the prawns on the opposite worktop and he took a flying leap from the sink to the other worktop and had another go!!! I scooped him and pushed him out of the door but he was back in before i even had chance to close the door!!! my word can that cat move fast when prawns are involved! He didnt get any last night as in the end I shoved him out the front door.
oh and the things he has licked in the past - just cooked them and served them but kept quiet about the cat licks!
  • You`re lucky the cat only licked it - our greedy thing would`ve had a big bite out of it at least! I had to fight her for a big lump of cheese not long ago!
  • Cats lick all sorts of things including their bums - so no, I wouldn't eat it.
my thoughts too - it would be a definate 'No' from me!

Surprised at the question - and even more surprised any people are saying 'yes'!

We have three cats - all strays who adopted us - they NEVER go on worktops or tables - that would be the end of them lving at our house.

Couldn't stomach it myself - as another poster said - would rather eat bread and feed the meat to the cat now its started it.

I never have liked eating on other people's houses very much - and now I can see I've been right.

I grew up in real poverty, we had nothing and I mean nothing. Our dog came in with someones' leg of lamb in his chops, no clue where he got it from. Me mam had it in the oven in a flash.

That was the kind of meat we could never, ever have afforded. Reet good it was too.:D

Totally agree with this, apart from I don't have any cats!

I can't believe people would eat food when it's been licked by an animal, that's just gross and very wrong _pale__pale_:naughty:
