    Woowoo, just sold my first item (Taken DVD box set)... Sold for £13, Amazon took £3 which is quite a bit in my opinion but its better than nothing :}

I've found that it's best if you don't think too hard about Amazon fees

Balance it with the fact that in comparison to ebay there are no relist fees that can creep up on you, no problems with buyers that don't pay quickly, or at all, and no paypal fees either

I would agree. The beauty of Amazon is knowing exactly how much you will end up receiving once the item sells. If the amount doesn't seem a lot after fees then you can always adjust the selling price accordingly.

The only thing likely to bite you in the bum is miscalculating the postage costs on larger items as you only receive a standard payment towards postage.
  • My first request for a refund

They ordered and paid for the book on 23rd Dec and I tried 3 times to send my usual "Thanks for buying, dispatch as soon as PO re-opens" email but it was returned undeliverable 3 times. Then had an email saying "I think I ordered a book but I dont want it"

I wrote and offered a refund ( gritted teeth - the postage was way over the Amazon allowance and I pay listing fees as not a PM yet) as long as the book was returned unopened in its original packaging etc etc. but saying maybe as the book is so good they might change their mind when it arrived ... had an email back saying - yes it is a nice book but they have 3 copies already.....

    Why do they do it??

    Is it me??????

Ah well - Happy New Year folks! Only sold 23 during December so didnt meet my target - but going ahead with PM anyway!

January target - to offset the PM fees!!

None of my 150 books sold in the first 60 days and they closed on the 20th December. I thought I would relist them after christmas - but I've went to do it today and they've all vanished from my closed listings. Is there any way to get them back?

I think I might give up on the whole thing!

    Hi Ann

have you told them how much you will be refunding them? If not you could offer to refund the total minus the 'actual' cost of postage - which they will see on the envelope. However, to avoid negative feedback I do usually offer a full refund. In the past Amazon have offered to back me on the offer of 'minus postage' when they have agreed that it was the buyer's fault - not sure if that is against distance selling rules or not.

Also, hopefully to make you feel better, you will not incur any fees with Amazon if you refund through their system - you will get your 86p selling fee back as a non PM. There are no 'listing fees' as such on Amazon.

    Happy New Year to you.

    Hi TD

I went PM in my first month so never had to relist. However, I believe that once they disappear from your closed listings they are gone for good.

I know listing can be a pain but it might be worth relisting manually - set up a some standard text in a word document and cut and paste for each book. eg one for acceptable, good, very good and like new. See post 1, 2 or 3 for the types of text.

Alternatively, you may think that if they didn't sell within the first 60 days they may not be worth the space you are giving them. I have some books that have been listed since Aug 04 that have not sold, but I have the space so they can stay for now..... They do occasionally sell even after 2 years.

    Best of luck with it.

Hi TD - sorry to hear you're having a difficult time with Amazon, normally closed listings stay for quite a few weeks so not sure why yours would have disapeared so soon after 20th Dec. Do you still have the emails telling you that they have expired? If so, there's a link in those that you can click on to relist. If you still have that its worth a try. You could also try emailing Amazon to ask why they've disappeared. What sort of books were you selling? Just wondered if there might be a reason why you had no sales in those 2 months.............

    Good luck

They were doing some maintenance to the Marketplace system on Friday, it sounds like your listings might have got caught up in it.

I'd drop their customer services an email and see if they can help.

Should be finalising my tax return as we speak, why do I always leave it until the last minute? Last year at this time I got most of 05/06 prepared and was determined to submit early - yet here I am again with only 2-3 weeks before the deadline.

    Ho hum.

    FFM :)

    Hi everyone,

haven't been on here for a couple of weeks. Been on holiday and busy with christmas etc.

FFM and AT - glad to note that I am not the only one to submit my tax at the last minute!! I have just literally submitted it today! Great news is they actually owe me money coz my employer charged me too much tax, so they owe me £369!!!! Am extremely excited and happy about that. Do you know how I will receive it? In my pay next month? cheque? Does anyone know how long I will wait?
