  • If I was only going to buy 3 boxes I would probably go for 2xD1 + 1xG4.

I always used to buy the G4 size jiffys but since PIP they seem too wide to pass the measuring test, they go through the slot OK widthwise but when they are laid on the frame they just go over by a smidge.
My PO isn't as picky as Soo's but they wouldn't accept it as a large letter, I ended up asking if she could tape an edge in and hey presto - 91p cheaper! so now I always tape an edge in, when the ones I have run out I'll get the next size smaller, there isn't a lot in it

Same here, I always tape the side bits in so that it is LL rather than Packet.

  • SORRY - MAJOR ERROR!!

You're right, I gave the code for the Mail Lite Plus, I agree they are a bit too good for book use, the jiffys I use are the Mail Lite and they are 3 for 2 too. the code for those is W30 BL1

Wow! That shows what a difference a code makes!

    W30-BL1 - no offer 1 box costs £15.03, 3 or more cost £14.55 each

H2N-BL1 - buy 2 get a 8 cup Bodum cafetiere when you buy 2 or more boxes of the same mail lite bags, 1 box costs £13.00, 2 or more cost £12.49 each

    How bizarre is that?

  • Very odd - in the catalogue W30- BL1 is £12.79 and 3 for 2 (as a phone order)

Viking like a bit of confusion marketing and I really have to juggle all of these catalogues in front of me on the dining table when I want to put an order in but it I always find an offer to suit me.

Thanks for all the info re padded envelopes versus plastic mailers, I think I need to get myself a Viking catalogue :D and look through it BEFORE a glass of vino of a weekend

Good tip too about taping the edges up - would the front info for newbies benefit from some of these tips/updates?

  • Hi

I've just been reading your tips on envelopes - thanks for that as it's something I've been meaning to ask. I've been using ordinary ones bought in Partners, but have now ordered a box of Mail Lite from Viking. Cheers :T

I'm about to settle down with an archive box full of novels and start listing them. Yawn! A fantastically dull way to spend a Sunday afternoon, but I might just end the month (21st Nov to 21st Dec) with no overdraft if I keep on earning a bit extra so it's a good incentive.

I've been looking at job lots of books listed on Ebay - does anyone buy those? There's a seller in Sheffield who looks like they have decent stuff.

    Thanks for all the advice

That's not an easy question to answer, some people have bought successfully from Ebay but I know that some Amazon sellers off load their penny wonders on their (me included). These books are usually in good condition and sell well at boot fairs and on markets because they are very popular - hence the 1p price on Amazon.

The problem now is that Ebay have made the history for such items 'hidden' and you can not see the pattern of bulk buying followed by bulk selling of unwanted books - if you see what I mean.

  • Thanks for that FFM. I'll give them a miss for a bit then :D

I'm listing my own 'popular' books, mostly at 0.01 at the moment, so I'll see how they go before I start thinking of buying bulk lots! I have 2 archive boxes, overflowing bookshelves and random stacks to get rid of before I need to buy stock in :D

I was thinking of selling some of my 1p books on ebay as a job lot, but in the end I boxed them and sold them via the local free ads where I sold them to a car booting lady for £10 for approx 40 books. I did have some really good, virtually brand new book sin there, lots of Book club hard back editions of popular authors etc, ideal for a car boot but useless for Amazon as they were heavy.

Update on November challenge: 28 books sold from a target of 30. This is absolutely amazing....I have never sold so many as this.

Well done Soo that's great - wonder if you will be the first person to meet their challenge [or did FFM already get there?]

Send some buyers my way when you've done :rotfl:
