Been thinking about buying some padded envelopes from Viking Direct if they have a 3 for 2 offer. What have folk found are the most useful sizes to go for presuming that its not possible to buy mixed boxes?
I know that it'll depend on the size of books people have listed but I find i've got quite a mixture.
Sales have dried up a bitdoubt I'll make the challenge - not even reached the halfway point yet WHINGE & WHINE

I was thinking about trying the thin foam wrapping suggested in the first part of this thread when my envelopes run out. Is anyone else using this method?
I'm not going to make the challenge. I have books to list but don't have the time at the moment.

Hi Teapot
I've got over 4200 books listed and sell 70+ books per month, so the sizes of envelopes I use is probably quite representative.
I buy my envelopes from Viking so the reference numbers will make sense. I use D1's mostly - they take the majority of paperbacks, the next most popular size that I use is G4's and they take larger paperbacks and hardbacks. On occasions I use C0's for very small paperbacks.
If I was only going to buy 3 boxes I would probably go for 2xD1 + 1xG4.
For books that would be Packet if I used a Jiffy but only Large Letter if wrapped in brown paper I use a plastic sleeve for waterproofing and then brown paper - making sure that I use parcel tape around all the edges and over lap at corners - so far so good on feedback.
Hope that helps.

I have a large roll of foam from Viking - a few months ago I ordered bubblewrap for my ebay stuff but they left the foam in error ( I was out at the time, OH signed for it). I phoned up to tell them and they said that it wasn't cost effective to collect it and process it so I could keep it for free. It was the size of R2D2 and isn't a great deal smaller even now. I use this and the plastic mailling bags, this keeps the packages very slim0 -

Hi AT
Do you get the plastic mailing bags from Viking too?

Yes, they are from viking and I use the documents enclosed envelopes too so it's an easy packing system. You may have probs though because you use ordinary stamps and they don't seem to stick very well and peel off - the PO print outs are much better stickers.0

That's a good point, I did try sticking stamps onto a plastic bag before and they 'ping' straight off once they dry
They could be useful for my Ebay sales though because I send OH off to the PO to get sticky labels.
I'm still a firm believer in keeping the local PO going so I shall resist print-your-own as long as I can.

any time I've had to use ordinary stamps on a plastic mailer I've put a sticky label on first then stuck the stamps on that, it works but it's another thing you have to buy and remember to use0

I usually have labels as I print out addresses to put on the envelopes - so thanks for the idea.
I just had a look on Viking as I need to order some more D1 envelopes, I was hoping for the usual buy 2 get 1 free, but it looks like its buy 2 get an 8 cup bodium cafetiere!!! But I like a 'nice cup of tea'
I may have to try phoning and see if they'll switch the offer for me.
Do you know what item no the plastic bags are that you use? There seems to be rather a large selection
