Which is why I prefer to travel by car :rotfl:

In a word, no. Actually the only thing New Street station is near is the Bull Ring which is mostly shops and eateries. The pub is in a place called St Phillips Place, opposite Birmingham Cathedral (ooooh I feel like a tour guide LOL).

I don't mind arranging to meet outside New Street station and then us all walking up to OJS together? I am just worried that with it all being pedestrianised people might get lost.

Dundeedoll - I shall add you to the list :D
Nic1lou2 - I shall add you to the list too :D
NPM - shame you won't be able to make it but never mind xx

    Thank you!
I am thinking of going up by train and I think New Street will be the station I'll arrive at from Worcester. It says on the pub website that New St is about a 10 minute walk, Snowshill 5 mins.

It'll be so nice to meet up with everyone and as you say, it gives us something to look forward to!

    Thanks for organising it.

Hmmm if you're coming from Worcester you can in theory catch a train that runs into Snowhill which is a stones throw from the pub. I think the line to New Street is a more direct route though as it misses out Kidderminster.

SORRY ABOUT THE SILLY QUOTE THING

Thanks. The reason I said New St was because I'd looked up train times etc and when I put in Snowhill it said the train arrives at New St, I'd have to change to go to Snowhill.

BTW When looking up above, it quoted me an 'Off peak return' of £7 something...........much better than driving up/parking etc, BUT can anyone tell me how to find out what off peak times are? I looked on website and it just goes on about discounts with a rail card and says off peak is when trains are less busy - great help!

Me too. I could get train tix for about £30 for that weekend, but the later weekends look about the same. I think I would stay overnight though, so I will look for a hotel deal too for the night. I will definitely be well, in ALL WAYS by January!

Go for the travelodge option if you are travelling by train. There is one in the centre of Birmingham. Alternatively there are innkeepers lodges just a couple of miles outside of Birmingham, if you can get one of your fellows to share it would cost no more than 19 pounds each a night, and that includes continental breakfast.

    Hi all

I booked for me and DH, coach only so far, with Megabus, total return for 2 £20! Where is The Priory Queensway? That is where the coach arrives. We get there at 1pm so we will be a little late to the pub if the place is far and we need to find our way there.

    Going to book hotel now!

Edited to say: Booked for Novotel Birmingham City Centre (Broad Street). Special offer £40. Brilliant!

Could any of you locals help with directions and distances please? We have never been to Birmingham and have absolutely no idea of travel around the city. For example would it be worth it for us to buy an all day bus tickets? If we arrive in one part of the city and to get to the meet we need a bus ride then to get to the hotel another one it might be a good thing, in my experience. But if we are lucky and everything is in walking distance (or even a very short taxi ride) then we won't bother for the bus ticket.

Any help and suggestions about this will be gratefully received, thank you millions! x
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

The priory queensway isn't far from the Cathedral, a few minutes walk? Outside the cathedral, Colmore Row, is where 8+ different buses stop that mostly go down broad street. From the Cathderal to where you are on Broad st is a 10-15 minute walk, or a few minutes on the bus from Colmore Row! Incidentally, Snow Hill Station is on Colmore Row too!
All of these places are in the city centre, but your hotel is sadly slap bang in the middle of Birmingham's sickeningly chavvy clubbing strip. There's a few good pubs and places to eat along that strip, Brindley Place which is very nice with nice pubs and restaraunts is just off Broad Street, so is the Sea Life Centre, Symphony Hall, NIA...
Basically, you're in a great position, you just might get a kebab lobbed at you if you're walking down Broad st at 2am :D
A day ticket on the bus is £3.50 so very reasonable, especially when a single is ~£1.70.

I'm from Birmingham but have never actually heard of this proposed pub :rotfl:
Birmingham Centre and surrounding can be a bit hard to navigate as sometimes walking along the road would take ages or isn't possible(ie, from Broad St to Colmore Row you come away from the Road and walk through an indoor forum and pedestrianised areas) so I'd get on google maps to see the landmarks along your route or I'm sure one of us locals could help.

    Hi Caterina,
Sorry, not a Brum local but did just put the coach station and your hotel into google maps. The coach station doesn't look that far from the pub.........it's to the left and down a bit :rotfl:.
The hotel is a bit further from the pub tho' but not a HUGE distance.

Thanks for the info adelight and dundeedoll! I have no intention to walk anywhere other than in my dreams at 2am, or even earlier! Usually my bedtime is around 10pm or sometimes even earlier. However if there are enough OSers staying overnight it might be good to go for a meal together so I might be a bit later going to sleep (but never at 2am! I would be a walking zombie!).

Also I am accompanied by DH so I feel ok to walk around in the night, within reason.

Oh I am getting all excited now, can't wait! This is the right tonic for me today as tomorrow I have a bit of a work ordeal (big conference) and was getting very depressed about the thought. Thank you for organising this meet!

I should stress that the Pirory Queensway is not the main Birmingham Coach station. Mega bus coaches will stop at the Priory Queensway which is more just like a bus stop, national express and most others will stop at Birmingham Coach Station in Digbeth just outside the centre.
Most of Birmingham's Centre is always buzzing through the night at the weekend and there's an intense police presence so you'll feel fine walking around at night.
