I made the salmon pasta last night... but instead of cream and water, I used all semi skimmed milk... as I too didnt have any cream in :o... and it was still very lovely :D

I've made it with whole goats milk for the boys and it worked well too :)

I am very bad at sticking to the store cupboard. The whoopsies are too tempting!! This week I got nearly 750g TTD line caught cod for under £4, a fresh tuna steak for 60p & 200g of parmigiano reggiano for 99p.

The last couple of days have been OK, with HM bolognaise from the freezer yesterday & HM pork sweet & sour from the freezer today (previously made from organic pork steak whoopsied down to an incredible 75p).

The whoopsied fish in the freezer is getting out of hand, with about 5 ½ kilos of the stuff in there! I am off work from next Tuesday (:hello: Weezl, send me a 'to do list! :)) so I will do some batch cooking. The fishy batch cook plan currently looks like:

    Fresh tuna ‘meat’ balls
    Fresh tuna Provencale
    Scandinavian fish stew (cod)
Greek fish stew (sea bass & trout) (the above 4 are JO recipes)
Fish pie (lemon sole & smoked haddock)

My sister bought me Gino’s pasta for my birthday (she said she didn’t know which cookbook to buy, so went with what she fancied on the cover!:p) And there is a recipe in there for baked smoked salmon pasta, so will probably do that too. Will still have about 2kg of fish left!

The shopping to get the ingredients to complete all of the above is coming in at £6.63 in MrT, though I’ll check out L!dl first (it only opened here last year, so still ‘discovering’ it). Which includes a cheap bottle of white wine!

Also in Gino’s book is a pasta bake that is basically a pasta bolognaise, layer of that then a layer of mozzarella, another layer of the pasta & meat and topped with parmesan. So am thinking of trying that too (will just need the mozzarella).

ETA nothing against the CFR salmon pasta, just I would have to buy cream & the baked one is a white sauce, so already have everything in!

WOW! Your whoopsied buys sound great! :T I never seem to find any when I go to the supermarket to do my big shop so I must go at the wrong time :( I still haven't made the salmon pasta but will give it a go soon.

It’s good to know that the salmon pasta works with milk, as I always have that in & rarely have cream. :A

I never get decent whoopsies when I do the main shop either (Tuesday mornings – I work at home on Tuesdays & the supermarkets are quieter during the day during the week). I am in the office in London on Mondays. DD & the car are at my parents, so I have to walk through the town centre a bit before 6pm. Exactly when the fresh fish counter at Mr S does is final mark down (hence quite so much fish!!) And the other departments follow straight after.

Generally it is 1 – 2 hours before closing time. The town centre Mr T & Mr S both close at 8pm on Mondays. Mr T doesn’t do the final mark down until 7pm, and I am usually home by then. So, for me, it’s mostly Mr S, as it reduces at 6pm & I am there then anyway. Today was 320g Scottish salmon fillets £1.98, 420g (12) TTD meatballs 85p, Thai green chicken curry (tonight’s dinner) 65p and special fried rice (with pork & prawns) 40p (tomorrow’s lunch).

In my asda the whoopsies don't seem so good anymore - things are reduced from £2 to £1.65 - maybe I go at the wrong time of day?

pinkhayley definitely make the salmon pasta - it's become one of our staple meals and I don't even like salmon really!

The whoopsies in my Asda aren't that good either. I'm very disappointed in them lately. I haven't managed to nab anything since Xmas!

  • hello - long time no see!!! Sorry for not checking in sooner, my life is so busy and often too chaotic...

I wanted to ask - can someone give me a link to the recipe for "healthy potato salad" please? It has sliced boiled new spuds, drizzled with oil, and...what else?

    Thanks!

Hi sounds like everyone is doing really well and trying out lots of the CFR recipes. The salmon pasta is really popular here as wwell and it is really tasty for such a small amount of slamon. The pizza is another staple here and i always have some in the freezer.
Went a bit off the storecupboard challenge yesterday as it was ex's birthday. Was going to take him out for a meal but he wasnt feeling well so took a joint of beef out. Went to a friends and stayed waaaay too long so had to go and buy pastry and a packet of peppercorn sauce:o (the shame). So we had beef wellington iwht sedges and the sauce so it was very tasty but fell off the wagon a little bit. Dont tell anyone please lol.
Will need to go and spend a little bit on top ups soon. I keep saying that and put it off but am getting very low on milk and if i dont get my cuppa there will be riots.

artichoke I was talking about the smoked salmon pasta - I think that's the one the others were talking about too. I've been adding a bit of frozen brocolli to the pasta as it's cooking the last few times - I like a bit greenery!

Am going to look at the website in a second and see if I can find an idea for tea tonight. Am still trying to run supplies down so not sure what to have but I'd like to avoid buying anything until saturday if I can.
