Hi guys, I haven't looked in on your thread for months so I hope it is still going well.
I was reading a new diary on the DFW board from someone who was worried about how she was going to feed her children cheaply and healthily so I recommended your website and I thought you would like her response:
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the recipe site...I was nearly crying reading it. I was feeling guilty that I'd have to give up the boys' health food shop goodies. I've been buying them jars of pumpkin seed butter at £2.79 a pop...reading this site, I've learned how to make my own which will be cheaper and healthier. It would never have occurred to me to do that. It's made me feel I can stick to - and possibly even come in under - my new food budget, which had previously seemed impossible to me.
I think this is the sort of person you were trying to help.0 -

Just wait until your boys can make their own pumpkin seed butter. Mine make their own to take to uni!!
All these steps towards money saving and healthy eating work towards helping our youngsters to be able to make their own healthy and frugal choices in future too.

Then added the stock, must have been 1.75 to 2 litres, and about 1.5 cups of oily toor dal and simmered until the dal were soft. Then whizzed it and added the tiny meat pieces back and s+p. Very tasty and extremely filling
you could add any soft veg from the fridge, or leftover cooked veg
the fleshy stems round a cauli are good for soups like this, and the tough end bits of a broccoli stem
I used oily toor dal because I have a big pk that needs using, if I didn't have that, I would have used any other pulse to hand
my sister was telling me that her fancy food processer chopped up all the bones and everything to a jelly that she gave to the dogs. Was a bit envious that she could use the bones and all, but I know the machine cost an absolute packet
made a lovely pate with the giblets, the rest of the meat from the carcass, a good splosh of sherry, a spoon of honey mustard and a lump of butter. Had some today on a slice of toast, with half a bowl of the turkey soup for lunch - yum0 -

Hi all!
I typed a big post yesterday and lost it and was too annoyed to re type it.
I made marmalade cake yesterday, did it in 2 loaf tins but one looked done sooner than the other so i took it out of the oven, it was playing a trick on meit wasn't done and collapsed. I popped it back in and it recovered pretty well
and the other is in the freezer.
I made the paxo meatloaf and it was gorgeous! I used cranberry & chestnut flavour that I got for about 15p plus 1 egg and a pack of pork mince. I was pushed for time so just chucked it in and had it with some leftover sweet n white potato mash and veg from the freezer. As I say it was gorgeous but when I make it again ( i have 5 more packs) I'll throw in some extra cranberries and some softened onions and I'll serve with more potato and have a smaller portion of meatloaf (we ate half the loaf between the 3 of us - Chris had already eaten)
Oh and after reading the link to the chicken idea QOS posted I popped a load of water in the tin with my spatchcocked chicken yesterday - fabulous idea! it didn't really affect how my chicken cooked but produced 3/4 pint of stock which I'm usually too lazy to makeI'm so pleased.
I'm planning to make the peanut butter, choc, oaty bar things mentioned the other day, We just need eat the mountain of snacks we already have!

Potato & onion soup - just like leek & pot, but cheaper and taste almost the same. I just chop some pots, chop some onions, throw all into a pot with boiling water and a stock cube. Cook until very soft and then puree down with a stick blender.

We are ok. Just typical winter/ after Christmas blues for me. I don't do so well when not in the sun! I'm just doing some assignments...yuck, especially economics and I can't get my accounting to balance....does that mean it's going well or not???
So what is the plan for the website etc now that Christmas is over...valentines meals, easter eggs and hot cross buns? I still have my favourite recipes that I use so well done everyone. xxx0
