Hi Everyone.
I am intending on trying some of the recipes of CFP and was wondering if people would mind giving their top 5 recipes from the site. Not sure if i have posted this in the right spot.
Also in regards to the bread recipe I am in Australia and have not seen the Allinsons yeast anywhere but I do have Lowans instant dried yeast. Would I still use the same amount stated? I don't have bread tins but do have trays to do rolls on, would this be fine also? Sorry for all the queries.
Thanks very much

Hi All!
We had an asda shop last week and its still going strong so yesterday we made 10 portions of chilli and 10 portions of veggie rogan josh ( a tweaked version from Jamies 30 minute meals) and we are aiming to make our food last as long as possible. New Years resolution is to lose weight and get healthy (isnt it always!!!??) so we have bought more fresh fruit and veg than normal and have less carbs, this obviously effects the shopping total quite alot so any frugal methods to keep the cost down I'm enforcing at the moment.
I have some smoked salmon trimmings (a staple in the house now Weezl introduced them into the CFR shopping list) do people think that I could mix it with potato to make fishcakes? I normally do it with white fish (which I do have too) but I want to save them for something else so am going to experiment later lol.
I'm off today but back to work tomorrow... sigh if only i could be a lady of leisure lol

You are in the right place - and welcome, by the way- but it's a tough task, lol. So rather than give MY top five, I'll go for the five-ish that seem to be most popular with people in general (or most mentioned favourably, I should say) - chicken and onion pie, pizza, calzone, onion tart, winter squash risotto, and a bonus dish from the Christmas planner - smoked salmon pasta.
Also in regards to the bread recipe I am in Australia and have not seen the Allinsons yeast anywhere but I do have Lowans instant dried yeast. Would I still use the same amount stated?
YepAny dried yeast will work pretty much the same in same amounts.

Not for the no-knead method, no - too wet to roll. If you use the same amount of dried ingredients, but only 1.5pts of water, and knead the dough, it makes lovely crusty rolls (24 from a 4-loaf batch of dough, IIRC).0 -

Hi all! I've found my way back after epic flu!
I need to get back into the swing of things but not getting any motivation/energy
We need to try to not spend much as off to Austria this month which will cost a pretty penny no doubt. I can't wait to gorge on gulaschsuppe every day though!
Weezl - I promise I will get back to looking at the lunchbox planner too, I have been meaning to ask you would 'eggy bread' with a few less wedges in the sausage, egg & wedges meal work out ok? My boys wouldn't touch a fried or any other just an egg type thing0 -
This is my plan for the month. I will need to buy some potatoes, a chicken and some sausages. Checking out the freezer was good because we found a small beef joint which I will make for the boys before they go back to uni on Sunday.
Any ideas for something interesting with broad beans would be welcomed. I have a 2kg tin:o

Hello puss!
If you're using instant yeast, you don't need to activate it in water first so just disregard that step. I'd use roughly the same amount as the recipe calls for. Like Allegra said, the no-knead recipe is too wet to not use tins, but reducing the water and then just kneading the dough yourself for 8-10 min will result in a lovely shapeable dough that doesn't need tins. I mix, then knead, then let it rise altogether. Once doubled in size, form into the loaves on your trays and let rest maybe 15 minute before baking.
My top 5 recipes are:
- calzones
- salmon pasta
- butternut squash risotto
- onion tart
- raisin sconestop 2013 wins: iPad, £50 dental care, £50 sportswear, £50 Nectar GC, £300 B&Q GC; jewellery, Bumbo, 12xPringles, 2xDiesel EDT, £25 Morrisons, £50 Loch Fyne
would like to win a holiday, please!!

I found this post on a blog I read, it's a slightly different way of cooking a chicken, gives more stock whilst poaching most of it and still giving crispy skin
.

I'm going to give it a try this week, hopefully. Will report back if I do.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0
