Hi hope evertyone is ok. I will be doing a similar challenge and trying to run down my freezer. Though i havent checked i think i have enough stuff in to last til about the middle of Feb but will keep you updated on that. May have to do a few "interesting" meals to use stuff up but at least it will be different.
Look forward to hearing about Weezl and Hayleys meals as well.0 -
PB if the smoking is a non-negotiable for DH, I wonder what you think of the idea of growing and drying tobacco?
One of the old-style threads discusses it I think and says it's around a third of the price of regular cigarettes even on your first 'batch' IYSWIM?
I'll be interested to read more about your frugal challenge! Is your freezer well-stocked? xxx
The freezer is quite well stocked and we have potatoes, carrots and swede in the garden. I haven't checked to see if they have survived the snow and frost.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Hi all - Happy new year!
I definitely need to do a store cupboard run down - my freezer is about half full but my cupboards are absolutely fit to bursting - I literally can't fit any more tins or packets (pasta, rice etc) in! I think we are going to be having some interesting meals this month as I am really loathe to shop when there is so much food here already!:happylove DD July 2011:happyloveAug 13 [STRIKE]£4235.19[/STRIKE] £2550.00 :cool:0 -

Well i have just gone through my freezer and i have 31 meals in there (for 2 people) and that does not include the pasta, rice, tuna and pots that i have so prob got about 35 meals before i need to go shopping again. Ex has meals in his freezer as well so we should be ok for a good while.0

Happy New Year to everyone!:)
Sorry I have been MIA. I didn’t do the CFR Christmas, as I was at my parents’ Christmas Day, Boxing Day & Holiday Monday for dinner. And DD has been at her Dad’s since then, so I have just been eating odds & sods.
I have my freezer & store cupboard contents on a spreadsheet! And I have just totted up that I have over 14kg of whoopsied meat, poultry & fish in the freezers, as well as 36 meal portions – and the store cupboard is overflowing, e.g. 25 cans tomatoes, 21 cans baked beans etc. There are only two of us!!:o
So I think I should do a run down too, and should be able to easily match the mid-Feb target for this. Won’t even seem particularly frugal feeling – I have 1kg of fresh tuna steaks!! It was just getting cheaper & cheaper in the run up to Christmas (was everyone buying salmon?) to the point where I got two fresh tuna steaks for 65p!
Will get DD back home tomorrow & am thinking of doing it as a challenge with her – this is what we have in, what can we make with it?0 -
Nice to see you back Julimk its amazing how much stuff we accumulate without realising isnt it?
Think there will be some creative meals coming from us all in the coming weeks and look forward to other peoples ideas xx0 -
Thanks Shanks
Yes, we pick up whoopsies & special offers, and before we know we have more than we can possibly use short term. Will be interesting to see what meals people come up with.
BTW I don’t have any central heating either & didn’t put the electric heater on until was actually below zero. It has seemed almost warm over the last few days!! Trust you are doing OK with the Scottish weather & the night shifts.0 -
We had an interesting meal tonight. Leftover chicken, 2 sprouts (I found lurking in the bottom of the fridge), 2 chopped peppers and onions, chopped sweet chestnuts and a variety of spices. I called it Christmas curry and the boys all really enjoyed it with rice and red cabbage with apple. The only complaint was that we have run out of HM mango chutney.
I think I will struggle to get as many meals as you all from my cupboard and freezer stocks but I will do my best. There are a lot of us and my stocks are not as good as yours.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Pooh bear, before I gave up, I had an electronic cigarette, the sort you buy capsules for. I found that the combination of the smoke-like vapour and the nicotine in the capsules was a good substitute for normal fags. After a short time, I was able to swop onto the capsules with only flavour and no nicotine and so had, effectively, given up. Gave up the electronic cig shortly there after. The elec ones have the nicotine and the flavour, but none of the smell, or carcinogens formed by burning and are loads cheaper. HTH
We had cfr xmas for new year dinner :-). Did a buy no meat challenge in december and am going to extend that into January as well as eating the contents of the upstairs freezer ( mostly single portions).Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0
