Why are so many posts about things other than money-saving on what is supposed to be a money-saving site? They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

Not sure about HAVE to purchase, a £300 flight to New York (current advertised) isn't exactly essential.
Martin answered previously addressed this issue in his blog, but I think it would be good to have this question answered in the proposed Q&A list.0 -
One question that is asked a lot, although I believe it is already explained in the rules:
How do I delete my account? Why can't I delete my account?
I know a lot do it for the attention rather than because they genuinely want to delete their account, but it's asked rather a lot!0 -
Why are we not apparently allowed to refer to our MSE home page? I've had posts removed for referring to mine (which IS a blog) - when I see that other people are allowed to keep pure adverts as their MSE homepage (apparently because it HASNT been referred to).
We can all click on someones MSE homepage - and thats fair enough when its genuine homepage (eg a blog) - but I am surprised at this inconsistency. I appreciate that MSE cant go through everyones homepage and delete those that are adverts - so I think its fair enough that those of us with "real" homepages be allowed to refer to them - so that people know its worth clicking (ie as they will get a genuine homepage coming up).
EDIT; On a different tack - yes...it does happen that there is at least one Board Guide that has (more than once) made a sarkie comment against a poster they personally dislike/treated a thread differently because it was started by a poster they personally dislike. There should be rules making it quite plain that Board Guides MUST be totally "neutral mode" when replying and, if they find that too difficult, then they should be replaced as BG's by someone who CAN manage it. Having said that - most BG's do do a very "neutral" (ie good) take on being a BG - but "personal preferences" do come into this with one or two BGs....
Totally agree with this, although the BG I am thinking of may not be the same one/s you are thinking of.
I had a thread open for days, with a couple of thousand posts and thousands and thousands of views, which a BG would not close. It has gone off topic, was abusive yet it stayed open. When I queried this with the BG who said they couldn't close the thread, I was told to refer the thread to abuse (which I had done countless times!) and if I had a problem with the way they were dealing with it, to email abuse about it.
Then what do I see a couple of days later? A thread that was about 20 posts long, had gone off topic with some b1tching (abusive) and was closed by said BG!
What is the difference?
If there is one thing that grates on me, it is people with 'power' who choose when and where to apply it.
If you have a job to do, do it and be consistent!
(There are some lovely BG's on here though)

Thanks!
I don't understand what is deemed as offensive if someone can use an avatar for years without censure then suddenly it's yanked?
Is it wrong using the image of a dead pop star? I've seen avatars using Elvis so I guess not , and there are tons of funny pics on MSE so I felt singled out.0 -
Ah ok, I see.
No, if you've only recently been asked to change your avatar by the Forum Team it's because a forum user has only recently seen it and felt it wasn't appropriate for the forum so reported it.
As the Forum Team don't actively read the forum and only act on reports sent to them if there are others on the forum you feel they need to be aware of you need to report those yourself.
Hope that helps
