mandy_moo_1 wrote:just been down to my local....tesco that is not the pub!!........ and they're selling chocolate thats dated Aug 06 on the reduced shelf.
Are they allowed to do this? cos i thought it was an offence to sell out of date stuff?
It`s not illegal to do this aslong as you let customers know why it`s reduced.
It`s like a split multi pack of crisps, you can sell them seperately at a reduced price and if customers ask about them you tell them the truth.
I work for Sainsburys and we tend to only reduce OOD goods which last a while after the BBD,chocky is fine after that date.
I`d of bought them and stuck them in the freezer, saying that I only like my chocky frozen, cant stand the chocolate you get out of some shops in the summer, half melted and soft.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Couldnt resist a visit to R+R towers on the way home from work tonight, had my eye on the PCs in a box that were stacked by the end of the freezer aisles, they had a sign expired 31/10, had my eye on all week. Lugged it to scanner and it scanned at the offer price:eek: Put that straight back.
But they had bread makers( out of date SEL 31/10) in the same position in the next aisle, scanned one and it came up at the higher price. Put it back, went outside to draw out the cash ,came back in and saw to my horror a man standing at CS with one on the desk  Beaten to it by 2 mins
Went back to freezers and found morphy richards MR007 microwave in the same position but in the next aisle, same thing so scanned and came up at 69xx instead of 49xx.
Paid and went to till, girl called to CS manager who had been dealing with bread maker R+R, she said to him " we've got another one", they went off came back, gave me my refund.
But 3 managery people were discussing this by the desk, not to me but between themselves saying "who is putting them out again ,these expired last night"
I really wanted to interject and tell them they were out all along but I didnt have the heart.
That makes around a grand in 3 weeks now0 -
mikeywills wrote:How do you get your local store to fix the self scanners, there are two in my local and neither of them work.
Any suggestions without obviously raising my current inconspicuous self?frisbee wrote:what do you do if they dont write refund on your recipet when you get an r&r?
You could send it to me if you dont want it but our freezre is full so no meats or chicken
If your asking would I take it back for a 2nd refund then no I wouldnt but that is open to discusion on the ethics thread
As for the scanner locations check this0 -
Stockport Extra store was an Aladdins Cave tonight. I could have bagged half the meat aisle, but my freezer is literally jammed full of the stuff.
Bagged a microwave and a phone, CS tried the out of date SEL nonsense but backed down after about 10 mins argument.
Looks like the new get-out clause about out of date SELs has definitely originated at HO level and is now filtering down to individual stores. Trading standards are gonna love the conversation I recorded in the store tonight.0 -

Nice one!
Out of interest, how do you record it? on your phone?
If so how do you manage that? The record function on my phone is ok but not sure it would pick up a conversation if it was in my pocket or something.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Yeah I've got a Sony Ericsson which has a good dictaphone feature. I put it in my top pocket and the recording quality is a tiny bit quiet but you can clearly hear every word. I'm just in the process of working out how to get the file on my computer and burn it onto a CD!0 -

Hopefully its going to take a while for them to filter this down to my local, as most of my good R+Rs come off the back of it. They never try to tell me its out of date. Incidentally I was ready for that reply the other night when I got my two phones on an out of date SEL, but weirdly that was the only excuse that wasnt used..." our policy of refunding and keeping product only applies to food items"...or..." phones subject to availability", when the phones were in my bag!
Consistancy is the problem, it varies from store to store and CS person to CS person.
On the subject of people being asked to put their name and address on a piece of paper, I happen to have had a brief piece of training on the data protection act today. As I understand it, if they plan to collate your details and others with a system ie alphabetically then thats called a " relevant filing system", similarly if they process that info on a database on a computer then thats also called a "relevant filing system". This data then is covered by the data protection act and must be secured away in a locked drawer or a passworded document and have limited access.
But, and I might have misunderstood it, if ,they just have a drawer under the CS desk which all these pieces of paper are put in and there is no index, then this not a relevant filing system so they dont have to conform to the act!
They could store all the scraps of paper on the floor if they wanted.
Someone might correct me on that one.0 -

Not sure why you're defending him, Constantine, considering the way he has referred to both you and Spa as "lesser" Tesco employees with little intelligence of the working practices of the company. As I've pointed out before, neither of you have dropped a clanger by posting information on a misprice that was not previously posted on the board. The attitude displayed by Amishi on this thread towards both customers and fellow employees is disgusting. It does nothing to improve Tesco's image. It's also a direct contrast to the way you and Spa conduct yourselves here.
Defending him? I tend not to use the word stupid when I defend someone.Who or what was I before you came in to my life
I am not sure0 -
