    Discontinued versus Reduced To Clear

Discontinued on a SEL means that the item is no longer stocked at that store. It does not mean that it has been discontinued nationaly and does not mean it has been reduced in price. It is there to give advanced notice to customers that an item is shortly going to be deranged. As soon as a store discontinues something on their system, it will generate the SEL. It is entirely possible for a price change to happen while the discontinued SEL is on display, resulting in an overcharge. The SEL will be white.

Reduced To Clear SEL's are yellow and will (usually) have a crossed out previous price. These lines could be deranged nationaly, or could also be store specific (especially around non-food). The usual reduction pattern is 2 weeks at 50% off, followed by 2 weeks at 75% off. After that it hits Clear As You Go (and the skip). (There are exceptions to that last bit but that is the ideal).

Something has definitely happened in the last week with regard to the managers getting an @rse kicking. Both of the stores I visited yesterday (not Extras, either) had 'suits' with hand held scanners crawling all over them. They looked like a shoal of fish out of water  . Made the R&Rs I got in each store even more pleasant! :D

Sorry. But these kickings you (I mean you as in everybody, not you specifically Clasics ;) ) like to imagine do not exist. Never heard of it. Although I'm sure some specific situations may have been dealt with, there is nothing company wide.

Hubby went into our local tesco's yesterday & got some stewing steak & casserole meat. The CS called the manager & when he first came over he was so polite 'Hello sir how can i help you'.
Once he realised why he had been called he was rather rude.
He made hubby take him to the meat section & explain what he was on about cos he didn't understand
He then asked if he'd noticed any other meat with the wrong price :rotfl:
After that he said nothing to him at all, waited for him to be refunded & just stood there staring at him.
£36 is hardly going to break the bank & the managers attitde wasn't very nice.

Some managers are just sore losers. I find it even more fun when that happens...
I spelt my username wrongly on purpose, by the way!

Thats my experience too, in visiting just two stores over the last couple of days I am impressed by just how many people walking round with scanners there are ... I was going to say I didnt think a store would have that many scanners in the first place :) At one store as I was queuing for my refund at the CS desk, there was a parcel delivery guy there delivering a new scanner and swapping it over for a broken one so maybe they have had a purge and they are working them harder at the moment :)

It's pretty weird, isn't it? Yes, I bet the hand held scanners don't know what's hit them as well. :D

As Constatine said it is probably stocktake. Staff usually go around tidying the stock and the suits stocktake, scan each item or sel and input the number of units or cases.

Managed to get the iron mentioned on the misprices list. SEL £14.97 charged £14.98. CSA refunded my money with a sarcastic it is only a penny sneer. Shame she didn't mark my receipt or remove all the SEL.

I had the same attitude when i got mine refunded. When the comment "it's only 1p" was made i replied "every little helps....isn't that what you advertise?" ;)
