Tesco misprice discussion area part 12

There has been alot of discussion around some large misprices recently and some interesting debate around ethics of claiming full refunds lately but nothing to explain why misprices occur in the first place. The purpose of this post is to explain a little on why misprices happen.
What is an overcharge?
An overcharge is when you are charged a higher price at the checkout than is advertised on the shelf.
What causes overcharges?
There are several causes of overcharges,
i) The price increase has not been actioned
This is probably the most common and easiest mistake to make. The price integrity department have not actioned the price increase instore and therefore you are overcharged for the product you have purchased. These misprices will be local and normally applicable to one store only.
ii) My Multisave hasn’t come off
If a multisave hasn’t been set up correctly then the discount wont be applied at the checkout. This will generally apply to all stores.
iii) The label has a date on it that was ages ago…..
Once a promotion is finished, all labels relating to the promotion should be replaced with the updated prices. Sometimes this doesn’t occur, either the system hasn’t generated a new updated label or the label has been misplaced. Either way you may well end up paying more that the price on the label.
iv) But the poster says…..
All posters and hanging material is produced centrally and in advance. Due to competitor actions, Market forces, or any other number of factors prices can change at short notice, but the poster has already been produced and is displayed by the store as per instruction - it should however be checked.
v) The label price is lower that the price on the packet.
Variable weight products (cheese, meat etc) are priced at the point of manufacture. If a price change occurs whilst the product is somewhere within the supply chain then the price on the product becomes incorrect. This should then be corrected instore however as shown often is not.
I’ve seen several references lately stating that customer services remove the label after being told of an overcharge thus meaning that further customers will be overcharged…..
The reality of the situation is that the price that goes through the till is USUALLY the correct one as on the central price database. It is simply a case that the label hasn’t been changed to reflect this. Customer service are actually doing the correct thing, the label should be replaced with the one that reflects the right price. It is a fact of life that sometimes prices do increase…

Managers with had held scanners does not mean that they are checking for price errors, the most likely scenario is that the stores you visited were going through a stocktake....
Managers all know how to use the equipment and there are loads of functions that these devices can perform not just price checking.
I accept your point about R&R not being quite the hot topic in Tesco as it is here, but another strange thing I have noticed in the last week (And Ben500 supplied us with a superb anology explaining this the other day*) is that previously scowling CS staff (you know, the ones who would rather die than give you what is yours in accordance with the R&R policy) have been so pleasant during the whole R&R process it's all been slightly scary. This is SURELY not a co-incidence!

The only way that i can put it is that if a rocket has been issued then i know nothing about it.....being the team leader of a price integrity department one would imagine that I would be right in the path of the rocket!!Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!
I've put all the latest misprices onto a list for my marathon shopping spree tomorrow. It may be of use to someone else too.
Hi...There is no intent in my post here to upset you, or to find fault in your idea, but I wonder if this is the right thing to be doing.
It now allows anyone including any Tescoemployee(had to get that in)...to merely look at one post and have a lot to report to HO or their store managers about.
We know Tesco monitor this site, so thats nothing new, but to give them all this info on a plate seems silly to me. Having read your post and printed it out, I will certainly use it...... as a reference, but wonder as to the "sensibility(not a slur on you) of it posted on a public forum"
I see you got quite a few thanks for your post.....If I dont get any, or as many for this one, I'll accept that your idea is "more wanted than not"...
You could always tell people you have such a list, and ask them to PM you for it, that way you can decide who you wish to avail this knowledge to.(by their number of posts/time on forum/content of posts etc)Couponing....."every little hurts"
Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

Leadhead, your post depend on the intent of the individual. Some post their points on here in the hope that Tesco will charge correctly, many have stated that they would be happy to have a basket of completely correctly priced shopping with no r&r's whilst others openly admit that they are on here to get as much free stuff as possible.
The post is helpful to pretty much both points of view!!Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!

Yes ...I definately see your point, although the poster him/herself said they were going shopping with it, and wondered if it could be useful to (I presume other RandRers).
While I agree there are 2 camps on this thread, I believe that the "RandRers for self", outnumber the "RandRers to get Tesco to get it right" members by at least 9 to 1........although the only evidence I have to support this is by reading the threads(no calculations)Couponing....."every little hurts"

Whilst being overcharged for my xbox 360, the lady asked...
"is this a good deal?"
"its a very good deal" I replied0
