You didn't over fill it did you? You have checked that the coolant level is as it should be on the coolant expansion bottle when the car is cold and the car is on the flat?
Has it done it again since?
Does the water temp go up from cold to about 90 - 95degrees and then come down a few degrees when the thermostat opens?0 -

That's actually very risky advice, used cars are not subject to the same rules as new cars (well they are the same rules but older cars can go wrong -are allowed to go wrong- IUSWIM), You would have to be sure the garage could not show that the car was in satisfactory condition when it was sold. And if you lose the garage would claim for storage costs whilst you have been fighting your claim for months.0 -
Hi, unlikely to be anything major, and I certainly don't think you'll have grounds to reject it. I'm sure you will be understandably upset, and perhaps when Hartwell sort this glitch they might consider a little goodwill - next service free or something to compensate you for your inconvenience.0

FUMING!!!!!
Car went back into garage last week to have the thermostat tested, was told to take it back in today when the part they needed would be in. Took car today and they said they had replaced 2 sensors but another 1 needed doing but they didnt have the part in and they would phone me to tell me when to take it back in. After driving 3/4 of a mile from the garage the temperature gauge shot upto red and stayed there (this was the initial problem but only did it when travelling over 60 but this time I was stopped at traffic lights). Anyway got home phoned garage to tell them what was going on, the service manager assured me it was nothing to worry about it was just because of the faulty sensor and said I could take it back in tomorrow morning. I asked him if it was alright for me to drive to and from work tonight and he told me it would be fine to drive.
Drove to work no problems (temp gauge was up and down but ignored it as advised by garage).
Coming home from work tonight at 11.00 down country lanes miles from nowhere (I live out in the sticks) temp gauge went right over past the red, the warning light came on and then the dreaded engine management light came on which ment loss of power. I was 6 1/2 miles from home or 10 miles from work so decided to just carry on crawling home as I wasnt prepared to be stuck in the middle of nowhere on my own at silly oclock at night waiting for hartwell assist. Got it home and just outside the house (thankfully) the engine died!!!
Will be on the phone 1st thing tomorrow morning kicking off yet again.
Hartwell mechanics............think monkeys with spanners would be more appropriate!!
Forgot to mention that I have 1 last shift tomorrow then on Friday I start with a new company which is a FORD dealership so if/when get the car back I will take it their so they can give it a good inspection.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982

Driver from Hartwells is coming to collect me so I can pick up a courtesy car (more insurance to pay for now as not paying their £2000 excess fee if I have an accident!), the skip is still sat outside my house.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982

Skip just been picked up, got courtesy car (they have waivered the £2000 excess) now just sit it out and see what happens. Garage has admitted they shouldnt of given me the car back yesterday so will take it from there once they know whats wrong with it.Sealed Pot Challenge member #982

I don't understand these car retailers. Logic would dictate that you gave the customer a full refund in a situation like this at the time OP posted post #16 ignore what the customer says (i.e. refuse to repair further) and just give a refund plus a voucher of £300 off any other car valid for a month. This would make the customer happy and you can get shot of the dodgy car in an auction.
This garage is spending 100's maybe over a 1000 on repairing this bag of nails, and creating a very unpleasant sutuation and bad publicity....... does not make sense to me.
Where was the engine sourced? Scrap yard? JEEZ! Certainly doesn't sound like a reconditioned unit.0
