Nice! If that is this Strider then I apologise.
You are obviously a conscientious driver.
But your arguments are a bit weak and it doesn't change the fact that many drivers are just plain lazy: slow down? can't be bothered. Selfish: Slow down? Why should I? Idiotic: you could hit someone at 20 as well as 40 so why the fuss!0 -

Yes, that may explain things. I don't think I'm a troll tho, just logical:j0 -
I think the less the authorities concentrate on speeding and the more they turn their attention toward driving standards, the safer our roads will become.....
Oh and make foreign nationals and immigrants take the UK driving test! After several recent drives through our second city, I can say with some confidence that a very worrying number of our ethinic and eastern european friends drive like they have a death wish!!
They don't drive aggressively, they just don't know how to drive! they do not understand road signs/markings and they don't have any lane discipline whatsoever! They also do not seem understand what a pedestrian crossing is!
Top that off with most of them apparently not having any car insurance (insure car > tax car > cancel insurance).
I know some goodie two shoes will acuse me of racism, but it's quite frankly scary.... I can deal with aggressive drivers, but when some jumps a red light because they don't see any harm in it, that's just not on.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The council opinion will be that if you slow down enough they will cause no damage.
Though there are regulations controlling the dimensions of the speedbumps.
The council, several actually, refused to compensate the London Ambulance Service when the chassis legs started to crack on the LDV Ambulances, and laterly on some of the Merc Sprinter Ambulances, they also refuse to compensate for the broken gearboxes, damaged sumps etc caused to the RRU Astras and Zafiras.
Though the LAS did manage to get rid of a few bumps in Camden, at the end of the day leftie tree hugging environmentalist muppets in local authorities don't listen to anybody, even when the LAS provided proof that the bumps cause more deaths than they save, due to causing widespread response delays, and they don't stop speeding muc as I have been to several serious pedestrian RTC's near to speed bumps, the driver that speeds also tends not to care about his car and just flies over these things anyway.
The other simple matter is that if you hit most at high speed then the most cars, with sufficient ground clearance, just smooth them out and youbarely even notice them, damage tends to be caused by not seeing them and hitting them whilst still on the brakes, if I miss on I tend to accelerate over them to increase the amount of travel in the front suspension, making it less likely to cause damage.
The only trafic calming measure that seems to really work is the chicane system, very common is Tower Hamlets, at least in E1 and parts of E3.0 -
^^ See I think the intention of speed bumps is almost a revenge style thinking, damaging cars that speed rather than actually slowing them down.
It's no different to glueing broken glass to the top off your fence to punish kids who climb into your garden..... Only the later is illegal.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Fatbadger - Are you saying that it's not safe to drive at 30mph in a 30mph speed limit, that it is only safe to drive at 10 mph (hence the speed bumps) and that I should be driving as if a child (SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!) is going to appear at the end of my bonnet all the time? BTW, I do have one of the safest bonnets of any car on the road for pedestrians to hit, and airbags in bonnets are a very real possibility in the near future.
Speed doesn't kill, Fatbadger. Why are motorways the safest and fastest roads in the UK then?0 -
