Sorry about the long post - I figure it's about WW not SW so I'm just redressing the balance!:p

I lost 2.5 lbs this week please Fred. I haven't been this weight since 27/4/09 which shows how much I wasn't focused on this last year!

Lara, good luck with whatever you decide. WW works for me when I follow it! I think it can work for everyone who follows it and I think it is quite liveable long-term. I don't see it as a faddy plan but something that will change your eating habits for good. I got to a healthy BMI back in 2005 and it wasn't WW fault that I forgot about my weight and put a stone back on again going back to my old habits. The new WW plan encourages fruit and veg by making them free, no food is banned (but you can't have all the high point foods you want all the time) and my experience of leaders at the meetings has been positive. The new weekly allowance of 49 means you have some flexibility for meals out or going to friends or whatever comes up that you can't control which is good as you don't need to feel guilty. I pay £19.99 a month for monthly pass and if you are able to use the WW website that will give you loads of recipes and articles and other great stuff.

I don't know much about SW but was put off by all this talk of green days and red days and it sounded too much like food combining which I thought of as quite faddy when I was deciding what to do years ago. People on here seem to be getting on with the new SW plan and I am reading about it with interest.

    My week - 11 - 17 January

I was 53 ww ppts over by the end of the week, but I kept trying, kept writing everything down in the computer and got out with my pedometer to do some extra walking for damage limitation. I earned 26 activity points by walking this week, which was a good increase on 10 the previous week.

The things I found tricky were alcohol and Thursday evening when I always visit friends who bring lots of yummy unhealthy junk food to share. I think to stay within my allowance I will need to save most of my 49 weekly points for weekends. This week I spent 32 just on Thursday, and only had 12 left by Friday morning. I spent 52 ppts on booze this week, and was over by 53 so that could have got me back on track by itself. If I want to lose and maintain a lower weight I can't drink so much beer and wine.

So my plan for this week is to keep as many weekly points as I can in the bank until Friday, and earn 27 or more activity points through lots of mood-lifting walks with my pedometer. I will avoid buying a bumper pack of pretzels like I did last week because I will eat all of them myself and feel really sick and it will cost 18 ppts. Better to spend 7 points on a 50g pack of crisps or some cheese which I really love!

Writing things down even when I was over my allowance and then reviewing towards the end of the week has been helpful. If I want different results at the scales I need to do different things and my tracker will help me learn what I need to change.

I thought about joining WW to see how the pro points (?) work either online via Quidco or in person at a meeting although that doesn't really appeal to me but may be more helpful to make me understand??

I would like to lose a stone in the next four weeks if possible although after the last couple of weeks I'm feeling really down about it all.

    Hi Lara,

After my essay earlier I realised you're asking other things than the answer I gave you.

WW say that people who stay to meetings get the best weight loss results, people lose more with group support. I find that I leave my meeting with a better attitude for the next week, even if I haven't had a good week so I feel it's value for me. Although I can't wait to get back to 5lbs over my gold weight so I don't have to pay any more! Some people can't get to meetings or hate the idea and the WW online works for them. Eg this 'success story' on the WW website - Carolyn lost a stone using Online. You can always use the WW Forums or here to ask questions if you don't understand the materials.

    http://www.weightwatchers.co.uk/success/art/index.aspx?sc=600&SuccessStoryID=6901

WW would say expect 1 - 2 lbs a week. So 4 weeks is 8 lbs plus a bit more water as your body adjusts at the start. I think a stone in such a short time is too ambitious unless you have a lot of weight to lose in total. I'm not worried about how quickly I lose it as long as I never find it again! Good luck with whatever you decide.
  • Feeling better today thnkas eeps: just meds playing up - felt dreadful.

Hi Lara - we all do different things. I lost 2 st with SW a few yrs ago and think it is great. The red and green days are definitely not food combining as I did FC 20 yrs a go for health reasons and there is no comparison really as you can have carbs and protein wih every meal, just one or t'other is reduced.

Now I am not doing sw but have radically altered my diet for health reasons so probably not helpful to post what I do and don't eat. But I do drink a pint of raw green veg smoothie a day which is delicious and gets my veg count well up (not as a meal replacement, but as an addition to healthy eating.)
So I am only losing weight as a side effect of dietry changes for other reasons. But i hang around here becasue it has been my MSE home for the last 3 yrs:D

+1lb for me this week thanks Fred - know why and am not bothered. It will come off again.

Sorry again not to reply to everyone - the thread is so fast at the mo and I don't have the energy.
Hope all goes well today puds.

Victory - I guess if this is the 1st time you have seen Dr about how you are feeling, he didn't want to hand out meds too soon, form his point of view. Do go back though in a few weeks because you and we know this has been going on for some time.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Its a whopping great 5lb loss for me this week, which brings me back to the weight I was before Christmas.
    Glad you're feeling better BB.
Well done to all the losers this week :j

  • Hello,

    Thanks puds for your reply.
Please can I be put down for +1lb this week
I have no idea why, I've been so good! Maybe it's my TOFM, I don't have them anymore since being on the pill but sometimes get some of the other symptoms like a bloated tum. I definintely put everything in the food diary to the money so am not cheating myself.

    Exercise Log for Yesterday:
EA Active low intensity 20min workout, burnt approx 100kcal. Was feeling very tired this day, plus the low intensity wasn't so low, lunge jumps are evil!

    Food Diary for Yesterday:
Breakfast: 2 pumpkin seed ryvitas with light spread and 1 light cheese triangle. Probiotic yog, wheatgrass juice, green tea.
    Lunch: winter veg broth
Dinnner: (went to Harvester for free meal!) bowl of salad from cart (all green, no bad stuff), 2 salmon & asparagus fishcakes, 1 piece of grilled chicken breast size of palm dipped in BBQ sauce, wholewheat tomato pasta, 1 slice garlic bread, strawberries with raspberry coulis and 1 small scoop of ice cream.
Snacks: None (morning), 1 apple, 3 oatcakes (pre workout), 1 small glass of choc oat milk (post workout)

Considering I would have normally devoured nachos, a bowl of all the bacon bits from the salad cart, a couple of white rolls with butter, a combine harvester for one and a rocky road sundae, I think I've made quite a difference to the way I eat now!!

Am thinking about a 20min jog during my lunch break before I eat around Highbury Fields. Must get one of those scarfs to put around my mouth and nose though, my lungs hurt terribly in the cold!

    Hi Eric,

I'm 5ft. The calorie controlled diet that I am following suggests the following

    1200 calories

    150 gram Carb

    60 gram Protein

    40 gram Fat

    13.3 Sat Fat

    300 mg Chol

    2400 mg Sodium

    25 gram Fibre

    30 gram Sugar

On a normal day I tend to go slightly over the fat/sfat level and struggle to reach the protein level. My main sources of protein are eggs, cheese, nuts, quorn mince and pieces. You may have gathered I am a vegetarian. I struggle with beans as they play havoc with my digestion.

I'm very disappointed Victoria that you failed to say how wonderful the playdough stalker that I created for you is, especially after all the effort needed for [STRIKE]carefully handcrafting various shades of modelling dough in a highly technical manner with a stunningly high level of attention to detail [/STRIKE] hittin' copy, then paste :D

29% fat by the way is fantastic. By the way, does our thread have a level of fat, that of which, when you drop below, means that your not allowed in here anymore? or is this thread a free for all where even the slim folk are welcome? ;) just wondered

Ha, ok the playdough (looks like that salt dough stuff to me though) Looks a tad mediocre. I think you need to do another google search for stalker!

29% is apparently average!! Which is ok. I cant wait to get under 10 stone, that will be amazing. I think i will have to go beserk and buy clothes when that day comes. Thin people are allowed, but im not thin yet! Im the biggest one out of my friends :( I always have been though.

    Hi Everyone!

Congratulations on all the losses this week.

Phew, it's good to get back to this lovely calm thread after the craziness of the Boots Sale thread!!! I got caught up in the madness and spent £73... my limit was £30 .

I got so caught up that I forgot to eat this morning(!) so ended up nipping into a sandwich shop. I had a chicken, bacon and mayo cob, which was probably not the healthiest of choices; I'm going to estimate it at 700 cals. I did think 600, but think I'm better off over estimating as I'm determined to get a good loss this week.
I've decided that I need to start estimating my meals out and adding them to my totals as I have a habit of thinking, 'well I've no idea how many cals I've eaten so I might as well not bother counting until tomorrow now', which isn't very helpful!

I'm feeling a bit better today so have decided that I really must get back into exercising. I will be back later to post my efforts (or lack of!). I'm hoping that promising to post will motivate me to actually do something today!

Puddings - hope all goes/went well today.

    See you all later.

    Afternoon all,

Betty, sorry I was AWOL. Between trying to fix OH's laptop which had another blimming virus on it (in a week), and trying to keep up with the SW thread, which seems to have about 10 pages added per day, I've been neglecting you all here :(

Victory, I've had a look at the sample food plan you put on, and you're really getting the principles already, so well done! I know it's a complete culture shock for you to switch over to SW, but in the same way you learnt to trust WW, believe me SW really, really does work. You just have to do the plan 100%, all week, every week. Your body could probably do with having a change of food routine too, although I know you have to contend with diabetes, but if the body knows what to expect most meal times, it can get lazy too.

My main suggestion to you would be to cut back on the carb snacks, like crackers, snack-a-jacks, and ready-made foods where possible. If you control the amount of carbs you're putting into your body in a more natural way, I'm sure that can help with the diabetes too. You can have a huge vat of homemade vegetable or minestrone soup, and you can leave out things like the beans if they mess up your numbers, but you can still have lots of flavour, and it can be filling too. I make the 12 speed soup (dyno rod), which has stock, any veggies you fancy, beans, pulses, mushy peas, etc., whatever you like. You can have it chunky, or blended. I make a huge vat of it in the slow cooker, and then portion it out into freezer bags ready to be microwaved each day, or whenever I fancy it. The children absolutely love it too.

It sounds to me that you've used WW to control your large appetite, but despite doing WW for so long, your appetite hasn't actually altered. This is where SW could really be your saviour long-term. The fact that you can eat, and eat what amount you feel you need, means that you rely upon your appetite, not the calories, or points, or syns, etc. to fill you up. The fundamental key is to choose the right kind of foods to satisfy your appetite. No one is going to feel full up on snack-a-jacks, crackers and sugar free jelly (which does have a syn value, about 0.5 I think). Rely upon the free, and superfree foods to snack on. So, for example, when I'm feeling peckish, I'll have a satsuma, a couple of slices of ham, an Activia or Muller fat free yogurt. Today I've felt extra hungry, mainly because I had a poor night's sleep, so that always makes me crave eating, and is probably trying to get me to have carbs, but instead I've had a few spoonfuls of leftover shepherds pie (mainly the meat/veg bit), then 2 slices of ham, and then I did my lunch early. Do you not like bacon/pork, or can you not eat it for other reasons? Look online for hints and tips to find snacks that will be more filling, but equally enjoyable for you. Keep posting your daily meal plan on here, and Betty and I can have a look at it for you. Just make sure you eat enough, if you don't you won't lose weight, as a lady at my class discovered this week, she's lost 3lb since joining, but gained 1lb this week, but she's not been eating enough! Honestly, SW is a plan for people who love to eat food, not to deprive themselves of it.

    My meal plan today:

B - strawberries, banana, natural ff yogurt
L - bacon medallions (zero fat), 2 eggs, mushrooms dry fried in a bit of water, large tomato, baked beans
D - low fat sausages x 4, big dollop of mash, 1/3 plate mixed veg, gravy (2 syns)
    HeA - 250ml 1% milk
HeB - Kellogs Fibre Plus dark choc bar (having with my cuppa this evening)

So I actually struggle to eat any syns most days, that's my problem, and I really need to make sure I have them, so that as time goes by I will have something to cut back on easily to help with the plateau moments.

So tonight I might be a real devil and have a couple of kitkats or something nice. What I aim for are to have 3 substantial meals, that mean I don't even feel the need to snack inbetween, and it's definitely been the key for me.

Fred, I've actually remembered it's Wednesday, for a change! Put me down for a -2.5lb loss this week

I was glad to get my 1 stone award this week, so bearing in mind that throughout last year I gained/lost the same 3lb despite counting calories and depriving myself of carbs in one form or another, or eating carbs, then eating little else for fear of putting weight on (even though I did anyway), I have been stunned how fast this weight has come off, as I only joined in November, and we had Christmas/NY inbetween! My son is sniffing distance from having lost his 1st stone now too, and lost another 0.5lb last week. He looks so different now, and sooooo gorgeous!

Right, I've got to get off up the gym now, before it gets filled up with all the newbies (like me). Catch you later.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home

Wahoo! ive got mail! thanks Eric - ive installed it and had a quick glance and it looks really good. It appears very scientific, with plenty of graphs and charts etc, I prefer seeing things laid out like that. Will look properly later on. Thanks again.

what's best? under 60g of carbs or under 60g of protein and healthy fats?
I dont envy you or anybody that has an angiogram done, or any intrusive test or operation for that matter!
As for losing your apron, am i right in thinking that working the muscles in the abdomen, such as situps, will tone the abdomen muscles but wont necessarily use the fat supply that is local to the abdomen?

Betty, you can only control the things that you can control, the rest is down to luck or fate or plain old misfortune!

If simply having thinner people around you makes you feel fat thenthe answer is obvious. You need new friends, and the fatter they are, the better for you :-) Alternatively you could just take your thinner friends and feed them up until they become a group of hippos

Frogletina - did you see the Royal Institions Christmas Lecture last month, the one about what happens when you eat chocolate, it was quite interesting? Its probably available soemwhere on youtube, If i get time later will have a look. Welldone on your lb by the way.

Safesound, Wannabefree - both good results this week, congratulations :-)

Lara - hi, welcome to the thread - we're all doing different things, some ww, some slimming world, some counting calories etc... keep posting your ups and downs, theres support and motivation aplenty
