Also just remembered the pirate ship in the normal 4+ playmobil is in the half price tesco toy sale too. £25 iirc.

    HTH.
  • I grew up in Germany so we had loads of it as kids, all 3 of us played with it. It was more for imaginative play than building so i think it depends on the child how much it is used. We would make our own theme parks, schools etc. It's in the loft waiting for one of us to want it for our own kids. I like the detail you get with it.
we have love enough to light the streets.

LEGO - if anyone looses a piece then get the kids to write to LEGO :) They actually have a department who deals only with childrens letters about lost pieces and finding the right part that has been lost and posting it out - from memory it's free too :)
(I applied for a job there many years ago - unfortunately HP offered me more money and even the 50% off employee discount at LEGO wasn't going to help pay the bills LOL)

  • I agree with all the posters...... it's a great buy. Instead of buying lots of toys that are a passing fad and will end up in the bin or charity bag I now try to stick to buying one quality prezzie instead of lot of cheaper ones. Less clutter too. :T
Would never sell my boys' sets (pirate ship, train set and stables) as these are heirlooms to pass on to the grandkids.
    £2012 in 2012 = £34.44

Me and DH decided on playmobil for our 4 year old son last christmas and wish we hadn't bothered, we spent more time putting it together than he has played with it!

Snap! Was going to say the exact same thing. I wish l'd gone for imaginext stuff until our son's of an age where he can't put the damn stuff back together himself.

It is lovely stuff though just fiddly and lots of small parts - something to consider if you have a smaller sibling who likes to put things in their mouths

    Happy moneysaving all.

To offer an alternative experience, we bought the fire stuff for our little boy for his 4th birthday (all the family also bought him parts of the set so he got 4 vehicles and the fire station). His fine motor skills aren't that great and we thought he might struggle with it but he ABSOLUTELY loves it all! Admittedly he doesn't bother with the tiny things like the megaphone, the cones etc and the visors keep coming off the helmets but none of that matters. I really feel it's something he'll be able to play with for years at his 'level' at the time. At the moment he just plays with the vehicles, driving them around like a mad thing, making deafening siren noises, hooking them up to each other and going off to 'emergencies':D. I can imagine in years to come he'll get more creative and start creating stories with the characters and the more intricate little bits of the set. He has a play room full of toys, but very quickly we realised that putting the playmobil away at the end of the day would be futile so it now lives (tidily!) in a corner of the lounge and is played with from the second he gets up to the second he goes to bed in one way or another (as I type he's turning the propellor of the fire helicopter and making 'brummmm brummmm' noises! :rotfl:)

Definitely worth every penny in my view and we plan to start the construction set for him this Christmas. I love knowing I'm asking family for things that he'll love, won't get fed up of (unlike countless toys he has stowed in boxes!), won't break after half an hour and won't stop working as they need new batteries every couple of weeks!

Never had playmobil for my 2 but the 2nd hand Fisher Price garage and house I got when DD1 was small (20+ years ago) is still going strong with my 2 yo grandson. He loves the garage and people and it's always asked for when he visits (although he's loads of other stuff to choose from!) Not got the house down from the attic yet, but will be doing so very soon!

I'd never get rid of it, nor would I get rid of the lego as they are timeless IMO.

i got my dd, nearly 3 a playmobil camper van and she loves it, she loves the tiny peices and pretends to feed herself with the tiny knives and forks, this stuff will last for years if its properly looked after.

    Playmobile is definitely worth having

my kids had lots of it including the Victorian mansion & accessories, it was passed on to my niece quite a few years ago, & she's going to pass it back to my daughter for her children
so our family will certainly have had out money's worth out of it :)

we've also got the Western train with extra carriages & loads of track, but dad refused to lend that out :rotfl:
