  • I heard that playmobil is wasted on the under-5s! I have a soon to be 7 year old and soon to be 4 year old so hope that it'll have good use out of both of them. They're both the type of girls who can sit for hours and play with dolls so hoping to tap into the imaginative play but in a more gender-neutral way iyswim.

    Definitely a good buy!

I would suggest sticking to smaller sets for under 5's though.

  • I got a playmobil man for my DS who's only 18 months - who has been lovingly named Bill by DD (nearly 3) - but his hat is stuck on and his clothes don't come off like the stuff for older kids.

Bill and his dumptruck are already a big hit in my house!

I cried when my grandparents sold my collection... wouldn't be utterly worrying but I was 21!!!!
I keep eyeing all the new stuff and wondering when Little Miss is going to be old enough to get some... so I can play with it!!! Sad... I'm nearly 31 for goodness sakes! :)
Yep worth EVERY penny in my view!

My dd1 got into it about 4 and is now almost 13 and put up a fuss when I said we should start getting rid of the playmobil.

Playmobile is good, but I think that Lego is better...

IMO they are different things, we had both as kids and both were played with about the same amount but at different stages. Both still in great condition after hours of play.

I absolutely love playmobil as I said before we had it as kids and got a lot of play out of it. My DD is 2 and I bought her the playmobil 123 zoo for her birthday in June. It is like mini playmobil, doesn't have all the tiny bits etc. I wasn't convinced at first as it didn't look like they could 'do' much with it, as in it wasn't like her duplo that she can build with or her stickle bricks or train track etc, but I think thats why she loves it- she can dive in and get straight on with playing and build as she goes iyswim. She absolutely loves it and it is the one toy that she will happily play with on her own for hours.

They have this same set in the tesco half price toy sale at the minute for anyone that is interested.

  • My best deals with Playmobil and Lego came from the charity shops. Also posting on Freecycle or FreeAds might turn up something. We have a big seat storage thing filled with Duplo and my 6,8,10 and 11 yo still play with it, because it builds walls and buildings really quickly. The Lego sets can be a pain, but lost parts can be easily replaced. Playmobil is worth the investment, cause it is sturdy and good fun. Roleplay and imaginative games will be played for hours. Best way to start is with a set that represents the interests that they have now. Every toy store has a Playmobil catalogue. Pick up two, get a pen and sit down and see what they like. Hope you find some real bargains!
I never realized how much personal info is out there that can be used and abused to suit every purpose.

I love playmobile and can't wait to get some when our little one is old enough. We had it when I was little. The only breakage that occurred was when I jumped up and down on one bit, because I thought my Dad was brilliant and could fix everything (superglue, or heating and melting back together is great for Playmobile). Alas, he took one look at the mangled heap of little bits and shattered my illusions. :(:o

I love that you can get everything from portaloos to penguins, Drs to dump trucks.

I love playmobil! Get it when it's on offer - rare though - or from charity shops, boot sales etc as it cleans up really well :)
We have loads of it in the loft, most of it is 14 years old and looked just as new when it went up there a couple of years ago.

Lego is also great, but some sets tend to fall apart if you play with the models you made. The star wars sets we have are fantastic to build, but if you want to role play star wars with them it can get frustrating when they fall apart every 2 minutes. Think buildings are stronger and stay together better - hubby's castle set from when he was a lad is still going strong and our son has had hours of fun with it :)

Yes, Playmobile stuff is really good, but why would you want to buy a toy solely for the resale value later on? do you not buy toys because your child wants a particular one? seems a funny way round of doing things!!
