  • Is your debt joint debt? If so why not do what me and my hubby have done. We are spending £25 on each other to have something to open on the day. We have bought for our DS and other family and whatever else we would have spent is going on the house (still just have plain plaster on our kitchen wall :o) and debt - especially as we don't really need anything.

I bet she got a lot of pleasure from the trip, so don't feel guilty about the petrol money! Have you had any luck with the survey sites etc?

We don't have any joint debts no. We have set a limit on what we are prepared to spend on each other - I saved all my Christmas cash up from my work bonus so it's money purely set aside for it. We have agreed that we won't go above the amount agreed and that we won't feel quilty for spending it as we have saved specifically for it. We have said that if we start to feel guilty then it will have a negative impact on Christmas. Parents and brothers aren't expecting anything anyway as have spoken to them.

Chevalier - Not looked yet, cannot access those from work and have forgotten/too tired by the time I get home.
  • That's a really good idea. That's what we said we will do going forward but this year we only thought of Christmas in September so was too late by then. I think you're right about feeling guilty having a negative impact which is why we set such a low amount which reflects our current circomstances :)

That's a really good idea about agreeing an amount and not feeling guilty about it, it means you really get to enjoy your gifts.

  • Kat & jwil - thanks for your responses.

Pay day today, which also means the last lot of overtime has been paid - it was quite a significant amount this month so a large overpayment will be winging its way to Egg at some point this weekend (when I mean significant its only £100 as remembered to stick some aside in case of emergencies, but every little helps).

We have scheduled snow this weekend, so if we do get some it will make a NSW alot easier as won't be tempted to go out. If it doesn't then the Christmas lights in the town are getting switched on, so might take the kids along to see that.

    Well done
I am so pleased to see how well you are doing. Keep going and you are proving you can have a super time with your kids without throwing money at them. Keep letting us know how you get on. I am trying to cut back each day and have had 1 nsd this week and intend to have 2 this weekend. Weather here really cold so I dont think we will be wanting to go too far!!!! God bless

  • Morning all - Hope everyone is well and managed to survive the lovely warm weather we were treated to!

Successfully managed to complete my NSW - this was mainly down to the weather, the snow mean't no venturing out for me as didn't want to get the little ones all wrapped up and outside for little reason (and there wasn't nearly enough snow to make a snowman).

So, stayed in this weekend and ordered the remainder of the Christmas shopping (well, remainder bar the wifes) so that should be getting delivered when the couriers can get through the snow and the cashback should also come in handy.

Not planning much this week, hoping to spend as little as possible (unnecessary spend that is). We were paid on Friday so all essential bills have been sorted and the last of the years overtime has been received and thrown directly at the Egg Card (all bar £40 which has been set aside for any emergencies).
  • Ah lovely snow - very cold and also useful for NSD! All essential minimum payments were made yesterday so now know how much cash I have left this month, a nice little over payment to Egg will go after I complete the last of my Christmas shopping so that I don't get caught short.

How is everyone else enjoying the festive weather?
  • Hi - I have kept up to date with your postings and well done.

Had to do quite a bit of driving recently so not the best time to have all the snow.
