Still waiting to hear on my application, but have a couple of days off work after today as it is my 4th wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately my wife is working both of these days, our actual anniversary she is on an induction course so she cannot really get out of it (joys of starting a new job I guess). Still, will prevent me spending more money than I can afford to by going out for the day, but will definitely be getting some bits in to cook duck stir fry for when she gets home - I know that will keep her sweet. We have agreed to go on a "date" to the cinema at the weekend though to make up for it.
Money saving is going slowly at the moment, still trying to keep expenses down but since the football season finished my extra funds have ceased and I have to make weekly dips into my wages in order to get by.0 -
Thanks for the kind words all - unfortunately I don't think my interview went as well as I had hoped. I got the impression throughout from the questions being asked that a decision has already been made and they were going through the motions (I got this because none of the questions asked were based around what I would do to resolve issues that I had raised as issues within the department).
Still, what will be will be.
Kat - how have I helped with your childcare issues?
Sorry to hear this - problem with business it's not always what you know, this is how you become more qualified (by experience if nothing else) than your boss!
You helped as I worked out I could drop a day but still work the same hours saving nearly £200 per month in childcare. Mine didn't like it either when I raised the idea initially, but when I pointed out that there were others in the office on full time contracts working split days, and it was either they allow it (show some flexibility) or I would resort to dropping my hours (knowing they wouldn't want me to due to me being the only one in the office at the time doing what I did) they were more than willing to listen to my needs.0 -
Another week sorted and with pay day next Friday I am hoping to have around £150 in left over wages to throw towards another overpayment on the credit cards. If only I had been this sensible with money all those years ago I wouldn't be in the position I am today, instead, I could be putting this, and previous months savings towards a nice holiday in the sun!
Still no news on the promotion though, but they did say it could take 2-weeks, so I am not expecting anything until next Friday. Wifey gets her first full pay cheque this coming Tuesday, so fingers crossed it is the amount we have (well, the calculator supplied by MSE) worked out it should be (approx). If it is, we could be well on the way to happiness (if you can consider a couple of years well on the way!).0 -
Fingers crossed the pay packet is what you expect!
I have calculated some other work/childcare scenarios, need to have a serios chat with the hubster and agree a solution.Loan - [STRIKE]£6991.95[/STRIKE]£6180.01; Barclays Res - [STRIKE]£600[/STRIKE] £0 - £22 per week , NWB Grad O/D - [STRIKE]£1185[/STRIKE] £887.86 18.28% SWALEC - [STRIKE]£700[/STRIKE] £0 NPOWER [STRIKE]£220[/STRIKE] £0 Kays - [STRIKE]£591.28[/STRIKE] £0 TOTAL DEBT - [STRIKE]£10,288.23[/STRIKE] £7,000.01 31.96 % Paid off. Eagerly awaiting my wifes 1st full pay packet tomorrow, fingers crossed it's a good one.
On more good news our littlest has been accepted into the nursery attached to our eldests school (they both have the best Ofsted reports in the area), this is a nice bonus for us and makes getting them both shipped off in the morning so much easier.
It isn't until Jan when she turns 3 but it saves us a lot of hassle and with the free 15 hours childcare a week it means I might be able to go back to a 5 day working week (Although not sure I like the sound of that, would rather keep my 35 hours condensed into 4 days thank you).0 -
Sorry to be devils advocate - if you're both working, how will you be able to get your youngest to state nursery with the rubbish timescales they offer? Our DS has to stay in private nursery for that exact reason.Loan - [STRIKE]£6991.95[/STRIKE]£6180.01; Barclays Res - [STRIKE]£600[/STRIKE] £0 - £22 per week , NWB Grad O/D - [STRIKE]£1185[/STRIKE] £887.86 18.28% SWALEC - [STRIKE]£700[/STRIKE] £0 NPOWER [STRIKE]£220[/STRIKE] £0 Kays - [STRIKE]£591.28[/STRIKE] £0 TOTAL DEBT - [STRIKE]£10,288.23[/STRIKE] £7,000.01 31.96 % Paid off. The nursery we have been accepted in is attached to the primary school our eldest attends. It is a pre-school set up for 20 children only and only available to those with elder children already attending the school. Because of that it is open between 8.30 and 3.30 to coincide with school drop off and collection times.
We are fortunate in that my mother currently looks after our youngest on Monday's and my mother in law has Tuesdays off so she gets childcare responsibilities. I have Wednesdays off so no issues there and my mother in law only works Thursday mornings (although my wife is usually off Thursdays). Fridays my wife doesn't work (agreed day off with employer - thanks mum). The youngest will only be going Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays so not alot else will change.
My wife received her first full pay packet today and was pretty much what we expected it to be (going off the online banking anyway). We won't know for sure if its correct until she comes home with her pay slip as not sure her tax is 100% as being slightly unorganised she still hasn't got round to sending her P46/60 documents into payroll yet. But the amount received is promising!0 -
That's brilliant! Why don't more schools do it - I'm sure there would be a lot more working parents if they did.
Currently, we think when we have our second (sooner rather than later as we don't want too much of an age gap) I will start working nights (6-midnight) 5 nights a week in some sort of supermarket, we worked out that would mean we rely on the least amount of tax credits (never want to rely on them again as they go down so much), we have the highest "spare" money (more than I have now - only works that way with 2 though) and I get to spend more time with the child(ren).Loan - [STRIKE]£6991.95[/STRIKE]£6180.01; Barclays Res - [STRIKE]£600[/STRIKE] £0 - £22 per week , NWB Grad O/D - [STRIKE]£1185[/STRIKE] £887.86 18.28% SWALEC - [STRIKE]£700[/STRIKE] £0 NPOWER [STRIKE]£220[/STRIKE] £0 Kays - [STRIKE]£591.28[/STRIKE] £0 TOTAL DEBT - [STRIKE]£10,288.23[/STRIKE] £7,000.01 31.96 % Paid off.
