Sorry to sound like a right thicko...but could you tell me a little more about the one to one tutoring you do. Do you get lots of guidance with what to do?

Not at our place, but I expect it varies. I didn't know a thing about it either until I looked into it to earn some extra cash.

In our place it is a case of they assign you a student (I had two both in ks3) and tell you their level-ish and then off you go.
If you go to bbc.co.uk/bitesize and choose ks3 maths, there is really a load of stuff, way more than you can do in 10 sessions. From time to time I would get the student's topic tests so we had a guide to areas of weakness, but a lot of it is about building up confidence and study skills and really basic things like how to ask for help in a non-scary way in class.
Honestly you could do it standing on your head, the skills that are important are the ones you use all the time without even thinking about it.
If you prefer, I'm sure your Maths dept will share some resources with you. eta it works out at around £20 net per session, so £240 net per student, I did mine for an hour after school, but some staff took students out of class to do it.

    He sounds like my ex.

There are a lot of 'em about...I remember my solicitor saying "well you married him" but surely that doesn't make me responsible for his idiocies years down the line?

Marry in Haste, Repent at Leisure...never a truer word spoken.

  • I don't know how anyone can do that, even more so when it is their own child. I can't even do it to other peoples kids.

At least the trauma of the visit is over for you. No wonder you were dreading it. Best to move on. Your DD will realise all these things for herself as she gets bigger.

All I can think is he didn't want to spend the cash, but however skint you are, you can buy or make something and wrap it up, can't you?

You're right, at least its over with, he's a PITA.

Yeah.. thing is so many bargains about.. No idea how old your DD1 is but he could of collected coke zone codes and got her new look vouchers or something and it would of cost nowt (assming he drinks coke) or even something from the boots sale. Even if he couldn't be annoyed with it slipping you an extra 50 quid or something and saying could you buy DD1 a gift from me.. i have no idea what she needs/wants/would like would of been more than acceptable

He would rather tear his own head off and eat it:rotfl:

Anyway, eta I am eternally grateful to him, I have a gorgeous, clever 8 year old and an intelligent, sexy, kind and hardworking DH, and had we still been together I should have missed out on so much. Yay!

  • More bad financial news...the cold weather didn't just crack the UV filter on the well water system, it also cracked the new pump, eek! The guy has just been to assess the damage.

Funeral went ok, home with the fire lit and it is blowing a massive gale and pouring with rain.

Blew £27 today, £9 on two changing mats, the padded kind, and £18 on a canvas wardrobe as we have zero hanging space in our room, save for the back of the door!

I noticed some more cold weather damage, I have had these pretty coloured tea light lanterns for years and the bottoms have dropped out of all of them, I left them in the garden:o
