  • Quickie as prob won't get on much til sun eve.

NSD today, off to visit MIL tomorrow. Dreading it, frankly, but less than usual as SIL won't be around.

SIL needed to ring DH twice last night apparently, the poor sod is doing all he can and gets max 2 hours to rest of a weekday, she just winds him up and up and up.

Anyhoo...going in the smaller car to save petrol, DDs aren't coming. Will miss them and feel like I've had no weekend, but that's life in the sandwich generation.

  • That is a new one on me - the sandwich generation. How true.

I hope the weekend is less stressful than anticipated. Not many more of them now before your mat leave starts, so just keep thinking that.

We are going to take our smaller car too though i am not sure it is cheaper than the diesel to be honest, but at least i am happier with it being safe enough and my car could do with a long run to keep it happier.
  • Thanks michelle hope your car made it ok. Ours did, 11 hours driving this weekend, not counting running around town. MIL is not good, and frankly I can't see her managing more than a couple of weeks, but we'll see.

SIL was her usual self, but clearly and understandably in bits so hard to stay cross at her for long.

We are £215 the poorer, but this did include a £25 travel cot in the MrA baby event to use as a playpen - somewhere to put baby where puppy won't tread on him/her.

My girls are home and all is well, but I am soooo tired. We stayed at Premier Inn which was excellent.

I have tried to rearrange a DHL delivery but their website isn't working, the parcel is clothes for DH's birthday present.

Off to see who has had babies et.c. around MSE.

  • Did you do all 11 hours driving? That must be hard going even sitting in the car that long. We made good time, just short of 3 hours each way. Plus about another hour of nipping places. It was a full tank of petrol though, so i reckon about £50. I never have to fill it up fully anymore, but about 35L x 1.27 per litre = £44.45. Maybe a little cheaper than i thought, but definitely less comfy.

Sounds like it is not looking good for MIL. I hope you and your DH are ok.
  • I did half the driving, its pretty exhausting pregnant and the main reason I do all of it normally is I don't like DH driving the children long distances, and I don't like him driving the new car (he hasn't been driving terribly long).

So without them and in the old car its not so bad to share it.

I am honestly getting ultra stressed that she will go about the time when the baby is born, and I will get left with it all at home, I know you're used to dealing with this yourself and I really admire your mental toughness. I have none at the moment!!

We are also going to have some issues to resolve around SIL's attempts at world domination and my wish not to be part of that plan, when MIL has left us.

  • One thing i can offer as advice is no amount of stress can change it. You can't change what other people do, but you can try and change your reaction to it.

That is still a lot of driving for you. Try and catch up by going to bed early tonight. It is a long week when you start it so worn out isn't it.
  • Wise words, my problem is the potential conflict that arises when I say "No, I'm not doing that" when DH has agreed as he sees no reason not to...I shall have to be very calm. AND go to bed early, I am exhausted, and going for an early (earlier than usual) departure from work.

Just wrote a reply and then interrupted by a year 11 arriving to panic revise covalent and ionic bonding (exam weds!). Bless her, like eliza doolittle, I think she's got it!

  • Well, NSD today, just as well. Girls fed, lunches done, dw and wm on, and unloaded and dinner for us in the bottom oven. Lift share tomorrow so save at least a fiver of diesel.

Meant also to report I have Finally got to £25 on greasy palm, will be interesting to see how long it takes to pay out.

Does anyone know how payments work on pinecone?
