Tell them you've got a second job doing telephone coaching for excluded pupils during your maternity leave...

Otherwise I'm doing OK (despite my dad, who is a retired GP questioning my iron dosage as 'we only used to prescribe 2 of these a day' and I'm having 6...) and have just started a diet and supplement regime recommended by a nutritionist and agreed to by the consultant. The shakes are grim, but the diet is OK despite excluding cheese, wine and chocolate. It's high protein which I find hard, but I expect I'll get the hang of it, and right now I'll try anything that might work :D (even so-called mango flavour shakes that taste mostly of turmeric!)
  • OOh you poor thing, shakes make me want to vomit without the turmeric. Is it bog standard iron sulphate or something more sophisticated?

Had the iron sulphate in pregnancy - grim grim grim.

Toddlers today, lunch with parents, and the DDs are going to Kingfishers after school. Hopefully more paint will go on, it doesn't look like our kitchen any more, which is a good thing.

It's ferrous fumarate which apparently isn't so bad. I take fibre supplements and extra vitamin C so haven't really had any side effects so far. I'm still taking the iron at mealtimes though and i know I really should move it away from food.

I discovered last night that the painter was using silk, not matt for the walls. Luckily he'd only done the edges. I found the remains of an old pot in the shed and left a note as I had massage this morning (it hurt, but I feel better :D) saying not to use anymore silk and that I'd pick up some matt on my way home. I hate shiny paint! I'm back, with the paint, dust sheets are down (miraculously) and he's obviously seen the paint, but I've got no idea where he is. I think he mentioned having to pick something up today but I have no idea what...

Let's just hope its over soon!

Why should you move it away from food? Is it harder for it to be absorbed?

Good save on the paint, I hate shiny paint too.

Doesn't look like going to toddlers, the boy has been asleep on my lap since 9,30 and it ends at 11!

Yep - food inhibits iron absorption (where else are we supposed to get it from :s)

Upstairs has been painted... He missed the loft hatch, some filling round some new switches (he doesn't take switches or handles off which really irritates me...) and it definitely needs a second coat. He's not coming back until the end of the week, so I have made an executive decision to (once again) do the second coat again. I can't do the stairwell, so will have to make him do this when he comes back (if he isn't back by the time the plasterer gets here I might see whether he can be persuaded to do it!). But at least if I do the landing, I can put stuff back. The spare room is nowhere near empty and the plasterer will be back on Thursday. OH is due to come over tomorrow for a couple of days and I'm in danger of being very grumpy... I don't want to do that, or for us to spend all our time packing stuff up and moving it.

Next time I think about having work done in the house can someone please stop me?!
  • It will be worth it when it's done. He doesn't take switches off? It's two screws! Lazy bum.

I presume this is your Royal Berkshire residence and not the Devon one? Otherwise I could reccommend someone.

Mad evening yesterday, DD had a big asthma attack which disappeared as fast as it arrived. Was thinking casualty/ambulance when it settled (we stuck her in the shower with her Ventolin). Then a 60 minute(!) chat to a friend from work, good to catch up.

Today it's off out with the parents.

I know... He did a really good job on the outside of the windows, and a pretty good one on e inside considering they're metal, but I think he's just rushing things (too lazy to put down dust sheets unless nagged as well). I've just said to OH that we may need to think again about getting him to finish off while we're away. I suspect he's more of an outside work person but given the recession doesn't want to turn down work. Anyway, it's done, and once the ceilings are finished I'll stop the inside work. If it was the place in Devon I'd be doing it myself as it was tiny... We gave that up and now have a share of someone else's place so don't have to do any maintenance!

Glad DD's asthma attack has resolved itself. Enjoy your day out!
  • Thanks greenbee.

    29 watchers...

I have one ill child and one exhausted today. Baby had us up from before 5 (his motto - to fail to prevail is to prepare to wail - and today I have bills to pay and a Christmas lunch and a Baptism to arrange.

I find SIL's family's presence so stressful I have been putting it off - any top tips for head-shrinking myself gratefully received (it's only one day et.c et.c).

eta emailed vicar. A first step!
