    I'm back!
Hello everybody, I hope you've lost loads of stones while I was away. I'm on holiday till the end of the week -to be able to recover from the holidays-, and in spite of [strike]the choriz choc liq pud my mother[/strike] the heat I have walked around so much that I seem to have lost one or two pounds!:p
    Confirmation on saturday.

    Hello,

I've just joined Slimming World this week, previously been a Weight Watcher and lost 5 stone on that programme however after a family bereavement last year I lost all interest and began putting weight back on. Anyway I tried going back to WW but couldn't get back into it so I decided to have a change and have joined Slimming World. I'm wanting to lose another couple of stone, hopefully I'll get there!

Going to have a look through all the receipes, I'm a little confused about it at the moment - for instance I like those lowfat New York bagels. 2 1/2 points on WW but haven't got a clue how I work them on SW.

Hi josie. To find out the syn value of something you can get a rough guess from your SW book (generic bagel for example), or you can use the syns online facility (you need the SW group password which your group consultant will have). You can also ring the syn line (quite pricey though) or ask your consultant.

Having just checked online the New York Bagel Co, Less Than 2 % Fat, Original, 5 pack, each bagel is 11 syns on either green or original days. Same for the low fat raisin and cinammon ones.

It's quite high in syns really (most people have up to 15syns a day) but maybe have one half a day with some butter or use flexible syns if you want to have two for breakfast at the weekend or similar. Or you can have one everyday as long as your other food is free or very low in syns!

Well, as I’ve been lurking for the life-span of an entire thread now, maybe it’s time for a longer post, so I thought I’d share my motivation method.

On previous occasions I’ve dieted, if I’ve had a bad day I’ve tended to give up for the rest of the week and think “I’ll start again on Monday”, then you get to “I’ll start again at the start of next month”, and before you know it, you’ve reached “I’ll start again after Christmas”, which isn’t great if you’re thinking it at Easter.

These days I have a packet of gold stars, and for every day I stick to the diet properly (S/W with 15 syns or less), I get a star on the calendar. When my willpower is good, I always find I’d much rather have a star than more food.

On days like today when I’m off work and more likely to be tempted, I stick the star on as soon as I get up, because then if I go off the rails I have to peel the star back off, and it leaves a nasty torn bit on the calendar, which is usually enough to put me off being bad.

Of course this may only work if you’re a tad obsessive about neatness like me and would rather see a nice pattern on your calendar than raid the choccie supply…..

PS Have had mostly stars since May now (except for a whimsical couple of months when I had cartoon animals instead), and have lost about 2 stone, although I don’t know exactly as I don’t have any scales and didn’t weigh myself for the first time until I was about five weeks in.

I like your star idea, Cuddles! I feel demotivated so often, but I remember when I got my stickers at the SW meetings I loved them, and I still like to see them on my book. That might add interest for me!

Ooh, I've never been to a meeting and I didn't know they did stickers - knowing that makes me feel like I'm doing something right ;)

Just seen this, can I join in please?!! About 3 years ago I was in WW and lost 2 1/2 stone, it's all gone back on again - I never learnt where the 'off' button is for my mouth - I keep saying I'm going to go back to WW but just can't seem to find the motivation, I need to lose 4 stoneish...aarrgghh
I'm so cross and ashamed that it's got back on that I'm going to join a different class.....when I get around to it that is, it's supposedly this eve but have missed it already...how can I get my motivation back?

I exercise and enjoy it so that's not a prob, it's the eating that is, I can't seem to manage to eat one of something nice, it's either all or nothing... which isn't good..

Hi Myrtle - you've come to the right place - I think we all have experienced the same one time or another. For each nice tasting thing you put into your mouth visualise it stuck somewhere on your body eg imagine 2 large chocolate ecliars stuck to the outside of your thighs, a donut stuck on the front of your hips etc....You get the picture? Its not a nice one sure it isnt? The way I think of it is - the food has to go somewhere! It helps, although I need to work on thinking this before I eat something rather than after :rotfl:
Is there another class on after the one you have missed?

Good Luck, joining class the first week is always the hardest, let us know how you get on.

Hi Myrtle and welcome to the thread; the more, the merrier!
I find the best (only) way to resist temptation is not to put it in my way. Since my children have all left home and DH hasn't much of a sweet tooth, I've stopped buying biscuits etc. My Mum occasionally makes an apple pie for us (has done today in fact), but I'm grateful for the fact that pastry never tempts me, so hubby will have it over the next few days.

Like you I'm an all or nothing person, and my bete noir is chocolate :o so I have cut it out of my life completely!. I know this won't work for everyone, but it works for me. When I'm desperate, I have a chocolate Options drink and that does help.

We all have our owns motivating factors, health, holidays, Christmas etc. Since you've been at target once, perhaps hanging a slim pair of jeans on the outside of the wardrobe may help.

Keep posting and you'll pick up positive vibes from here I promise :T
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
