  • Having a hard time motivating myself. How do you do it? I've tried focusing on an upcoming event etc. nothing seems to work for longer than a 3 days.

Don't expect too much of yourself! Most slimmers go at it like a bull at a gate for the first few days, missing breakfast, subsisiting on lettuce leaves and tomatoes and, naturally, the enthusiasm soon goes out of the window.

I don't know if you have a plan in mind, but if you're calorie counting don't try to manage on less than 1500 a day. Anyone can lose weight (unless you're not carrying any surplus) on that and try to make sure that the calories are 'spent' on good, wholesome food, which will give you energy and make you feel full for longer.

If you're following a proper plan, take some time to prepare for it. Make sure the cupboards are full of good stuff that you actually like. Try out some new recipes, the same old thing every day will soon bore you out of your mind. Don't force yourself to eat stuff you hate - it won't last and you'll end up feeling a failure. Remember the saying "failure isn't when you fall down, it's when you stay down - success comes from getting up, again and again".

Don't think of it as a slimming diet (something you go on for a specific amount of time) but a healthy eating plan which will retrain your eating habits for a lifetime.

Make a committment to yourself that you will lose say 7lbs by the end of January - this is achievable and when you get there it should motivate you t lose the next 7lbs. Don't aim to lose more than 1-2 lbs a week, this is a healthy rate which won't make you lose lean muscle tissue.

If you hate water on it's own, try it hot with a slice of lemon (it's really nice like this), or you can use a tiny amount of sugar-free squash.

Keep posting and you'll find the motivation from a little friendly rivalry with others on the board - we're all here for the same reason!!

Hope some of that helps :D

  • PS kberry I love your sig and it's a great motivator in itself - there IS light at the end of tunnel, you need to just keep moving towards it.

Also welcome back to Rachie, I remember you too!

Hi Lois and consultant, yeah my avatar used to be a sparkly fairy, but I got fed up with the girlie imagine so wanted to change it, this is pretty random as I wanted something thoughtful really so probably will change it again!! LOL!

Is the losing weight recipe thread still going? I'm sure the start of this thread will tell me so will look in a mo!

I really need to remember what I did right last time as it wasnt difficult once I learnt to eat in a certain way, now that way has changed to junk its hard to remember how to go back without thinking I'm gonna end up munching lettuce like you say consultant!

Does anyone else find summer is easier to lose weight than winter?

Much easier Rachie. I find it a real struggle to eat fruit, salads, cold meals in the winter. I used to take a bowl of salad and cous cous to work for lunch followed by a bowl of fruit salad and muller light. These days I just crave something warm and comforting. Recently I couldn't even look at a muller light! I'm slowly weening myself back onto them. In fact I think I might make the rice pudding with it later tonight to stop me nibbling!

Where have the 2 Jeni's got to these days? Jenpoptab and Jenitells? I know Jenpop reached target, hope she is still maintaining it and not finding it too hard. Has Jeni gone back to USA?

BTW Rachie, it was the avater that confused me. I remember the fairy!

Hello to all especially all of the new guys and the returners!

Sorry I haven't posted all over Xmas - the PC went bonkers and as it's in the spare room that's been filled with visitors the OH couldn't get in to fix it.
My house is finally my own again - bliss!!!!!!!
Yesterday was the first day that I have had to recover from the bedlam and it was mostly spent doing yet more cleaning and tidying after the rabble had left. I then rewarded myself with my Christmas binge of all of the nice stuff I fancied (Pringles, fruit gums, a bottle of wine and cheese- yummy!!).

Today is a new day and I am back on the wagon - weighed this morning and have put on 1.5 - 2lbs (rubbish scales) that I'm going to call 2lbs as it's better to overestimate I think.
I have walked the dog and popped to town for a new diary to use for food and spending for 2007 so hopefully that's a good positive start.

The danger is that there's still quite a bit of chocolate, cheese, sweets and cakes left over - I think I'm going to take some of it to work for the greedy blokes to eat next week but the challenge will be resisting it until then!

Anyway, have a good day and try to stay away from the cupboards!!!
    Take care
    Rachel.

  • I hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Hi to all the newbies and returners.

I am dreading getting on the scales on Monday, so don't worry Honey, I think I will have gained more than you. We have just binned all the bad stuff in the house, ready for returning to the eating plan tomorrow. I got a water filter for Christmas, so I will be trying to drink 2 litres a day.

Apart from losing weight, what are everyones new years resolutions? I am going to try to give up red meat and coffee. I think giving up coffee will be the hardest one.

RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

Apart from losing weight my main resolution is to do more exercise. Well, anything at all will be more than I currently do! Asides that I aim to be more organised. This site has helped with that already - I had picked up bargains mentioned on other threads (grabbit etc) and put them away for Christmas and I intend to do that again this year. In fact today I bought cards, wrapping paper and a couple of pressies that will do nieces etc for bdays or Christmas. I just need to remember that I have bought them and so I splashed out on a diary/filofax/notebook (it cost £7.99 ) but I do need it to organise me! I am hoping it will be an investment :D We are getting some building work done this year and so money will be tight/allocated. My resolution is to use up all the bits and pieces that are lurking in the freezer and cupboards before I go out and spend money on food that I dont need.

Primarily, I want to keep losing weight and keep off what I have already lost.

Anyone else making any resolutions? Have we any challenges ahead?? I love a challenge!
