I think OH's Mum has a slow cooker, I might have to borrow it! Although got no idea how to work it, never slow-cooked anything in my life! Do you just chuck your joint in first thing in the morning and let it do its thing all day? We're eating about 5 so how long would I need to cook it for? Of course I know it's down to size, but are we talking 4 hours? Or 8?! Clueless... Thanks for the Morrisons tip though, I'll have to have a look tomorrow. We still haven't decided what we're cooking and OH's no help!

Can't believe your journey home Tete! Nightmare! And I'm very sorry you missed the Apprentice final, it's so annoying when you can't avoid finding out who won and people spoil it for you!

My Mum is sweet with her games but she's about 10 years too late. When I was younger I'd beg my parents to play games after Christmas dinner but they'd just fall asleep in front of the TV after having one glass of wine too many! Now Mum's decided to play games (although they're always really bad choices, what's wrong with Charades?!) and all I want to do is drink too much and fall asleep in front of the TV! :o

Sounds like you smell cinna-yummy Cinny! :p

The bump is good thanks Cinny, can feel her kicking away. Think she is glad to be having a day off work too hehe. Next Christmas will be so exciting although prob more for me than her!

    Ho-ho! :D

Not 100% sure on times, maybe about 3 - 4 hours? My Mum always cooks beef joints in about an inch of water (or wine :D) to thicken up afterwards which makes the best gravy ever.

Must be so weird feeling something faffing around in your 'belly' Wendz! My parents told me they were so excited for my brothers first Christmas and he just fell alseep while they opened his presents. In all fairness, my Brother is a September kid so was only a tiny thing. Must be so tempting to spoil them rotten, even though they don't really get what's happening.
  • I didn't know you could do joints as such in a slow cooker? I thought it was just stews etc? Glad you're doing well Wendz, be careful in the snow!!

I guess most slow cookers are too small? Also that kind of size of meat, you're probably looking at starting it off late night before you need it. I know I've done a small chicken in one before and after 8 hours it's been a bit questionable!

Been trying to keep busy today, as the boiler has decided not to start up so no heating or hot water. We do have cover with british gas, but my dad is going to come over and look at it first, see if he can get it going straight away.

I think you might have a problem with your SC! If you left a joint in the slow cooker all night and most of the day it would be way way overdone. We cooked massive cuts of venison in ours, would only take six or so hours to cook. Big joints of beef for a Sunday tea would go in around dinnertime and be rested and carved by 6.

Have you checked your outside pipes to make sure they haven't frozen? That was the main problem with our boiler when it decided to take a holiday. Never boiled so many kettles in my life! Hope you get it sorted though.

Hope you get the boiler sorted, that must be horrible in this weather.

I went to get a flu jab this afternoon after all the talk in the news about pregnant women. We tried to drive up one hill and could not make it so had to go long way round, dodgy on those roads!

I agree, I have cooked some pretty big cuts of meat in my slow cooker, but never ever left it in that long. Also 8 hours to cook a small chicken!! Definitely shouldnt be taking that long.
I only have a cheapo one from Asda so not the greatest on the market but certainly wouldnt have to leave it on over night.

Still got 3 more days left at work. Not feeling at all Christmassy but expecting that to change once I've left work on Xmas Eve! Does anyone else find it hard to feel festive when you've still got work to do or is just me?! Still got quite a lot to do on the annual report so can't see myself being able to wind down work-wise until Thursday at the earliest (don't work Wednesdays) but we'll see.
