That waterfall looks lovely Lara, it's good to know that you are having little holdays whilst you're there to take the country in, don't like to think of you working hard the whole time!
I can't believe that it's time for you to come home soon, doesn't seem like long since you went! I'm so excited for your wedding too, all of this travel and study has probably been the best thing for you to keep you from getting wedding stress!

Lara, that looks beautiful - glad you're making the most of it! I can't believe you only have two weeks left either. August will be here before you know it!
On the subject of weddings... We are going to the wedding of one of my university friends, who doesn't have a gift list but has suggested a contribution towards their honeymoon as a present. It was done nicely and I don't really have a problem with giving cash, but how much?! I'd be really interested to hear what you think, especially the newlyweds here!
Bear in mind that we are a little older than you, Birdie and Dinah, though that shouldn't make a difference...? What would you think about getting currency for one of their honeymoon destinations?
Nothing exciting to report here, just bumbling along...LBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -

If it was a good friend I would give £150 and if I knew them (but not very well) I would give £100. I think I would just give them a cheque as they could get a lot of people doing the same thing and might have lots of holiday spends but not enough to pay off their honeymoon. Hope that makes sense!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Depends how close you are to them Poddle I suppose, and how much you can afford! From our nearest and dearest we got between £60 and £40 a couple which we thought was pretty darn generous as we know how tight things are for many of them! A few people gave us gifts of between $30 and $50 cash which was really appreciated as it will definitely be spent on the honeymoon and we can say 'K and R are paying for tonight's dinner' and let them know when we get back! It's also quite nice to get currency as a gift as it's 'fun' money!
Whatever you give them will be well received though so don't worry too much, we were surprised at how many people gave us gifts and the generosity of many of them, even OH's cousins who we barely know stuck a tenner in a card which was super nice!

How much would you have spent on a pressie? From a friend £20ish was about average, from family about £30-£50. If anyone gave us in excess of £100 it was cause for comic jaw hanging open and 'wow, that was generous' type moments!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

NIMS dad did, and his American uncle (originally Irish) gave about $250 in gifts. And one of his mothers sisters was very generous too actually.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

I think it must be an Irish thing. The least amount of money we got was €100 and bearing in mind these people also came to Barcelona so had that expense, it was very generous.Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

The aunt in question is my god mother and I became almost a surrogate son to her after her one passed away. But yes, stupidly generous of her. This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.:j:j:j:j0 -
Got the internet back then love - no email yet?
Spent the first money from the £100 grocery challenge yesterday - £2.50 on 4 servings of soup - and I hate it! Serves me right for buying pre-prepared.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
