I know a lot of my friends have tried for the second one when the first turned two, wanting them closer together.

Realising New York is only4 mnoths away has brought things to focus a bit. Even if I got pregnant today (not possible but I'm doing it for the maths) surely there are unlikely to be much to put me on bed rest by 12-16 weeks?! Ie early stage pregnancy shouldn't be an issue to any of our plans.

I think it is something you should discuss with your GP as they know your medical history.

I travelled to Oz at 26 and 28 weeks and all was fine but I had a straightforward pregnancy and don't have any blood pressure issues.

So are you saying that you would start trying now? I think it's true they'll never be a perfect time, so start when you're comfortable with the idea. I know it's not ideal, but debt shouldn't stop you especially with your health issues.

I'm so fed up today about financial constraints. I'm desperate to return to my previous career, but it looks like there's absolutely no way I can do it without getting some unpaid work experience - indefinitely! Which is difficult when you have a mortgage and other commitments and something I feel I shouldn't have to do as I'm 29 and DO have experience. I'm thinking I should have a cut off point when I just give up on this particular idea and do something different. Sorry for the rant, it's just driving me mad as I don't know what else to do!

CMD and Dinah, hope your OHs jobs both work out for the best! It sounds like you'd love to be in Ireland CMD. Lol at your TMI conception anecdote by the way, as you're not considering 'Corona' as a possible name :D

Happy Friday all. Hope you've all got nice weekend plans :)

Sounds very frustrating Poddle. Could you do some work experience at the weekends so you can still work at your normal job?

I see, I suppose my opinion is that 'manageable debt' shouldn't stop you - as in you don't necessarily have to be DF before having kids, as long as you could service debts and still afford to overpay - like CMD....?

Obviously if you simply can't afford to live, then that's another matter - that's the one I'm stuck with too.

It's manageable on two salaries atm. And we can overpay. But my salary is double NIMs, so to loose mine we couldn't pay the debt. Without savings we couldn't even pay the morgage and bills once the maternity ran out so couldn't take the full year. We could manage on just my salary, but not just his. Besides which kids always require more money (I can't believe how much nappies cost!) and I want to not scrape by but be able to be more comfortable once we have them. And for us that means me working part time, and taking them out on a weekend etc. So for teh sake of having a little patience we could do this. Alternatively lets cross our fingers for 5 numbers on the lottery!

I agree with this but it has to be manageable. We can afford for me to take the year off and then go back part-time and still overpay on debts, take a holiday etc. But then I am lucky OH is on a good wage. Although, had we not moved to Brighton for his music course I would be on the same wage! Now I am 10k behind!!!

Sorry that you're feeling so frustrated Poddle. It is such an awkward position to be in, I think if money wasn't a worry there would be a lot more people out there doing what they really want to do rather than sticking with jobs they don't like just because it pays the mortgage (like my OH and me!)

By the way, I actually snorted at the thought of CMD's baby being called Corona! :rotfl: It isn't a completely ridiculous idea though... my friend teaches a kid called Cava!

given your health problems you could be put on bed rest after just a few months like our poor Flower (how are you doing now?!)

I am doing ok thank you, full of cold at the minute though! Having regular check ups with the doctor and providing everythng continues as it is I am hoping to go back to work in a week - fingers crossed!

With regards to when you should start trying for a baby, all I'll say is that when I found out about being pregnant the amount of panics I had about not being able to afford a baby is unreal.
But having done some research I have found that babies are expensive as you make them. I have actually been surprised at the prices of nappies etc, I always thought they were so much more expensive than they are!

I think it might of been Wendz who said to me if you wait for the 'right' time to have a baby then you might never have one, because there very rarely is a right time!

When will your debt be paid off? Is that when you hope to start trying?
