I can't believe how quickly things are coming around - very exciting about baby Wendz and Birdie's wedding!

Birdie, I hope your massage relaxes you a bit; life's too short to get 'Zilla' about things or let them ruin your lovely plans :D ditto what Lara said about seeing photos!

January is a funny old month isn't it? It's half post-Christmas blues and dark evenings and half new starts and resolutions. A perfect time for a makeover Lara! I'm trying to become a bit more polished too, especially for work. Just baby steps at first like painting my nails on a Sunday and wearing jeans less often. Am also planning to have my hair cut into a grown up long bob (but I'm waiting until I've lost about 7lbs so it doesn't draw attention to my chin!)

Tete, pretty pretty please post the link to your blog for me - all my cookies and bookmarks were deleted from my work computer, so I've been blogless since Christmas! And it sounds like you've become a creative whiz!

ETA: Tete, you've got a wicked streak! Love it :D

You're right about Jan, Poddle. The only thing that keeps me sane is nice food. The hairstyle sounds nice, you should go for it. Is your hair quite long at the moment? I'm not that adventurous, I just get a variation of different lengths and styles of bobs. Whatever one the trainees are learning, LOL! Oooh painting nails that would be good, I'm going to add that one to my list too.

Birdie :rotfl: you should dye your hair for the Wedding Of The Year, that would be priceless!!

Tete I hope you get crafting soon, I'm going to be following your progress eagerly as my Nan bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and I don't know what to do with it. Hoping you might help my with an Oyster card holder :D

  • Yeah I'm trying to smarten up a bit (have been for ages) but it's difficult when it keeps snowing or threatening to, there's only so many things you can wear and I inevitably end up with a massive cardi on over the top of everything anyway. I did buy some brogues in the sale yesterday so hopefully they'll make me look like a dandy :)

What a generous gift from your Gran Lara! The card holders are dead easy - I kept mine in my plastic wallet for ease and just made a cover to go over the top. I used quite a thick fabric but you wouldn't necessarily need to. Just cut out a rectangle a bit bigger and about 4" longer than the wallet when flat, turn over the two long edges and sew, then the two short edges, then fold ends in a bit so you have pockets for the card wallet to slip into (make sure you leave enough 'folding' room) and sew along the edges. Hey presto. Hope that makes sense - have a look at my pics and it should do I think. I was thinking about making a big batch of them and selling them on Etsy for £3-4 but then I saw some much nicer and more professional ones in Paperchase for like £1! Priced out of the market!

Ooo I'm excited, you make it sound easy! The gift was a funny one, as Mum bought me a sewing machine she saw at a car boot sale for £5 - quite a good Brother one, then she bought the missing foot pedal for £30. She told my Gran about her bargain and Gran went out and bought a new one for me instead! LOL Mum was *not* a happy bunny. So I said I would take the other machine to my friend in Kampala who trained as a seamstress but has no machine. So I had to take the car boot sale one back to London hand luggage on the plane in a Tesco bag for life and it got swabbed for explosives and all sorts. Now I'm still waiting for the Singer to come by Parcel Force!

Ah thanks, I'm growing my hair at the moment (ie. last 2 years) but it doesn't seem to be getting much longer, just a bit stragglier at the ends - a few inches past my shoulders. I might book an appt for after Feb pay day to motivate me. 7lbs by 25/02 is possible...

I wasn't sure about brogues to start with, but now I really like them - sturdier than pumps and quite smart without being heels, which probably works for you as you're tall, but is a no-no for me as I'm not :o What colour?

That's exciting Lara! And so generous that you're giving the other one to your friend in Uganda. Tete, you do make it sound easy but I don't think I could make one!

    Happy New Year everyone!!!

Dinah - hope your Gran is making good progress. How is she today?

Wendz - I was glued to One Born Every Minute last year. I thought that most of the women on it were so dramatic though! There is no need for all that roaring and shouting, you need to save your energy for the breathing!

Birdie - how exciting your hen is this weekend. You will have a ball :)

LOL@ the sewing machine story Lara! What a nice gift for your friend in Kampala too, she'll love it I'm sure! I'd love to get into sewing but I'm kind of scared of the machines as my Mum tried to teach me on her 30 year old one and it just did not like me!

Its worth a try with the whole selling the card holders on etsy Tete, a lot of people like individual hand crafted items rather than mass produced stuff and £3-£4 isn't silly expensive! If I had a need for one I'd buy one! :)

I'm liking the sound of the brogues too, I like them but I don't really know what I'd wear them with?

I'm gutted I forgot to watch One Born Every Minute last night, I loved it last year! LOL @ your comments CMD!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Tasha - it is strange what sells isn't it, I have actually done quite well last couple of weeks but normally don't.

Birdie - not long at all until your wedding, so exciting. Nightmare about the bridezilla couple.I will make sure I get married when no-one else is when I do hehe.

Cinny - that is a great attitude to have. I always end up putting back on what I lose so i think just having a bit of what you fancy doesn't do you any harm.

Lara - that woman was mad, think she was a bit over the top. I am excited but still not at the stage where I can comprehend this baby is going to come out.

Tete - the knitting group sounds fab. I think Jan is a bit of a rubbish time with all the dark nights but is spring soon yay!

Poddle - I might be having my hair cut to a long bob nexr time i get it cut. Scary!

CMD - everyone keeps telling me not to watch One born every minute but i love seeing it all! I am obsessed with any baby programmes at the moment. How is little Max doing?
