Sorry to hear things are so uncertain. My Gran had a similar illness and we had the same situation where the prognosis was not good but my Gran kept recovering. Although as you say she would recover less and less well and in a way we all wanted her to find peace.

That's great about the car, and I would be cheeky and ask HSBC for some compensation. If you have her details does anyone have yours?! Also you've been unable to use your online banking for a week now. Although in saying that, some things are a lot more important than money making, so don't be hard on yourself at the minute on the MSE front.

  • That's good news on selling the car and like you say a massive chunk.

I know exactly how you feel about your Gran; before my Mam died she was unconscious for a few days but her eyes kept opening. It was a nervous reaction and I could see there was nothing there and in my heart of hearts I hoped that she wouldn't wake up if that was all there was. It's awful but I know she wouldn't have wanted to be left in that state. If your Gran doesn't make a full recovery then the best you can hope for is that she's comfortable and in no pain and it sounds like she is. Thinking of you.

Thanks girls. It sounds so awful, but I'm kind of reassured to think her opening her eyes doesn't mean she's going to wake up but be a baby unable to move or feed herself or go to the loo or anything. If the bleed is this massive then its better she goes rather than is a zombie of the person she used to be.

Diet going well, 2.4lbs off this week. Not much exercise in that though, only diet.

I wish I could put something comforting but I'm totally useless with words. Just wanted to let you know I'm still keeping your Nan in my thoughts, and the rest of your family.

I totally know where you are coming from, when my Grandad died it was a relief, I know this sounds terrible, but he had, had enough and we could not bear to see him suffer. It is much nicer to be able to remember them as they were, full of life and enjoying it.
Make sure you remember to look after yourself, in times like this it is easy to forget yourself and your welbeing.

I've been thinking about you all weekend Dinah, like Cinny I'm not so good with words I just hope you're all holding up OK. I think Tete has said it very well about her not wanting to be 'nothing'.

Well done on the car sale too! And I can't believe that HSBC have made such a major mistake!

Quiet on here atm, I always look forward to catching up on the chat at lunchtime.

Car lady hasn't made contact yet, going to email this evening.

Grandma has changed, her breathing has become faster and shallow, which could indicate pneumonia apparently.

No more money news really, although NIM is playing football this evening so I plan to finish tidying the study, then maybe list some bits on ebay. If I dont list tonight I will tomorrow night while he irons.

Still good on the food and diet front, (3.6lbs lost in 9 days at this point) trying to fill my plate with stir fried or roasted veggies (I hate boiled anything but carrots) but I only use spray oil so its not too bad, then I'm only having carbs or meat on an evening rather than both. Lunch might have both though! Treats have been drastically reduced too. Also most importantly I'm only buying the bits we need, not the offers which always seem to be on treats. We've gotten through nearly a kilo of spinach in a week, and another of mushrooms and apples, NIM was so chuffed yesterday as he hit 7 a day for the first time ever (dinner being the very healthy pork chops with roasted carrots, parsnips and butternut squash, with spinach stir fried with mushrooms, soy sauce and garlic). I know I do sometimes cling to diet as something I can control when other things fall apart, but even the nurse pointed out to me the other day that I'm right at the top of a healthy bmi and I need to address it.

Diet is going well for both of you then Dinah! No harm in it if you are being healthy with it and not going to extremes!

Not much news from me, my ebay sales seems to be Ok from last week. Was worried about the watches as the batteries didn't work but did make this clear and both buyers are happy.

I watched one born every minute last night and managed not to scare myself about birth, although one of the women was a bit hysterical! Only 99 days till due day now!
