Ford don't have the monopoly.
Shame they didn't fit heaters as well.:p0 -
for scraping it.:rotfl:
Personally, i go out 5 minutes earlier, get the car going incl the demister, to warm the windscreen, if its not ready by the time i want to go just some cold water, (because the windscreen in warm, it wont freeze again.
(use your second key to lock the car while its on the drive though.)
Be warned, if somebody smashes a window and drives off your insurer is not likely to be sympathetic!0 -
All these people talking about starting the car up and letting it idle...
You couldn't do anything worse for your engine than starting it on a cold morning and letting it tick over for 10 minutes. Check your car's handbook if you don't believe me - they almost all recommend starting up and driving off normally as the most economical and kindest to the car. Never mind that it's a waste of fuel! It takes ages to warm up to operating temperature, so it's a long while before you get any heat out of the heater anyway.
I use de-icer and a decent scraper - it doesn't take long! Also have a tailored windscreen cover for one car (try eBay - mine was less than a fiver delivered).0 -

Funny you should say that ! Ford do have the patent on the technology used in their Quickclear screens, which is why if you have a heated screen on other cars they are very expensive and very obtrusive in your field of view. Which in turn is why not many cars other than Ford offer heated screens as an almost standard fit.0 -
I urinate on mine, works every time :money:
Years ago I read a US Navy book about working in extremely cold climates.
It said that if you got a hand "stuck" on a piece of very cold metal the best way to release it was to urinate on it. It went on to say that if you got both hands stuck - get a friend to do it for you.......
I often wondered exactly what that meant !!!0 -
So many different opinions - what an original post!0

Well, if both your hands are stuck, what are you going to do about it?0 -

Yes me too - warm water get moving asap and then stop as it all freezes over, on the inside as well then scrape a 2" hole to peer through; then crash... Why don't all cars have heated front screens like most fords have for years?0
