Morrisons - wrongly accused of theft and no apology after 3 months!

-
There is one hell of a difference between a verbal apology and a written one.
Did Morrisons reconcile the till to see if there actually had been a theft?
[STRIKE]Very unlikely.[/STRIKE] No idea - neither do you
Did Morrison's waste police time by sending them on a wild goose chase?
[STRIKE]Yes.[/STRIKE] No - the police were investigating an alleged crime
Did Morrisons take immediate action to apologise for their major mistake?
No. - Agreed it appears not
Did the OP do anything at all wrong?
No. - Agreed it appears not
Was the OP put into the awkward situation of being accused of theft then spending that horrible few moments wondering if she still had the receipt?
[STRIKE]Yes.[/STRIKE] No idea whether the OP worried about having the receipt or not. I know I wouldn't worry, I throw mine away
Should the OP have been sent a written apology within days of Morrisons making such a bad mistake?
[STRIKE]Yes.[/STRIKE] Possibly, but they have had an apology so the thread title is incorrect
I've never had the police at my door, I'd be absolutely mortified. There is no way on earth I'd accept a verbal apology in this situation. A written apology is something concrete, it cannot be taken away.
If someone takes away the paper apology from you then it is er... taken away
A verbal apology from a customer services rep is absolutely meaningless, especially from a company that has consistently lied to the OP. Why is a verbal apology meaningless? Do you say saorry and never mean it, do you have to proffer a document every time you apologise?
Shame on you Morrisons.
I don't think that this is about compensation for the OP, but as a taxpayer I want to know why the police didn't make Morrisons pay for wasting public money. Write to them both then and ask.
An apology is an apology.
After 14 weeks I would have long since let it go.0 -

Glad your bored with your sanctimonious attitude here.
The OP seems a tad confused.
From the first post
"I just wanted an apology"
and
"eventually had a verbal apology"
So all is in fact well.
The OP got what they wanted.0 -

You got your apology, and clearly you after something for nothing - of monetary value to "make up for it".
Personally, I think this is shocking behaviour by YOU. If you want something from Morrisaons, do some work, get paid, use your salary and pay for it. Over dramatising and playing the distressed victim is laughable, if I was the store manager I would send you a couple fo clearance loaves of bread and some out of date milk.
Are you the kind of person that would claim fake whiplash, loss of earnings, physio etc of a minor car bumo in a car park?
Alternatively try a no win co fee solicitors firm and put in a claim for millions to Morrisons for the emotional distress that this has caused you. In fact just go the whole way and claim loss of earnings, and claim that you are now so distressed that you cant work.0 -

Oh, so if I call the police right now, give them your car registration number and tell them you've stolen something from me that would be OK would it?
That is their job and they carried it out. I believe morrisons pay more in tax in one year then you do in your life time so im sure they are ok.
Again, you make sure there actually HAS been a crime first, THEN you call the police...
how high is your horse?

Why does it matter so much to you if others do not share your point of view?
Have you checked the size of your own high horse?Velcro_Hotdog wrote:Daily Mail reader I assume?
Well that's the first time in my life I've been accused of being a Daily Mail reader
Get real, Morrisons shouldn't be involving the police until they are sure a crime actually has been committed.
Morrison's profits were reported as £767 million in March this year. They can afford the cost of a stamp and a sheet of A4.
Where were you yesterday when the spending cuts were announced, on another planet? I seriously do not see why public money should be spent because a profitable supermarket couldn't get off its !!!!! to check the facts.
If you have a different opinion on this I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning behind it?My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

It would appear that a mistake was made by a Morrisons employee.
Perhaps an employee of the company could enlighten us all as to the procedures in a case like this and when do the police get involved?
The OP has had the apology which they desired, so the rest is a bit of a non-story.0 -
Well I think the OP is fully justified in expecting a bunch of flowers at the least to apologise for the upset of having the police at her door. The neighbours could be talking about her and God knows how far the gossip will spreads.
Apple, you were out of order accusing the OP of over dramatising and playing the distressed victim!0 -

The OP has not had an apology in a form they find acceptable. A written apology is a basic courtesy. I can't for the life of me work out why it wasn't the first thing Morrison's did.
I can fully understand why the OP has a bee in their bonnett about this, I would too. It may seem a small thing, but if it matters to the OP then Morrisons should have accommodated that at the earliest opportunity.
The OP did nothing wrong, Morrisons screwed up in a pretty big way (IMHO) so should provide an acceptable apology, end of story. My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead
