the police went to the right address and eliminated them from their enquiries ... nothing for Morrisons to be concerned with.

if someone drives off without paying they are hardly going to waste time checking cctv while the suspect makes their get away.

But she didn't drive off without paying, that's the whole point!

And for the police to be involved in a case of theft it is surely the resposibility of the store to make sure that there actually has been a theft in the first place.

The OP was easily traced by her number plate, so the store could and should have taken the time to get their facts right before involving the police. A till/pump reconcilliation would have done that. How many other people got visits from the police on behalf of a petrol station that day, just because they happened to be in the forecourt at the wrong time?

If we follow your logic we might as well all have a copper following us around everywhere just in case we ever do commit a crime - madness!

There must be at least a moral, if not a legal, responsibility for the store to make sure there actually has been a crime before they report it.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

No, that's not it ... the actual point is all about getting Morrisons send the OP a letter, on paper, in the post, with a stamp on, in an envelope.:D

tbw... what does the title of this thread state?... is it accurate? Would the OP be happy if Mr Morrison apologised ?

Thread titles are frequently do not accurately reflect exactly what the OP is bothered about. The details of her post make it clear that she expected a written apology from the store manager - not a vague verbal 'sorry' from a CS operative who really had no idea what any of it was about .

I agree she would be better to let this go now - but that doesn't alter the fact that Morrisons did not take this incident seriously .

Where in law is the OP entitled to a written apology?

The law is irrelevant - common courtesy is what she is entitled to.

She may expect common courtesy, but there is no entitlement to it, not matter what she or you believes.

After 14 weeks she really needs to let this go and get on with her life, this seems to have become quite an obsession to her.

  • OP - I think you've probably realised what most people on this forum are like.

Whatever you post on here, you can guarantee theres a queue of people waiting to criticise.

Welcome to the most unfriendly forum on the internet !!!!

The OP wants to know (and is within her rights) WHY such a mistake occurred, who made such a major mistake, and is there any chance this could happen again next time she gets fuel.
Sorry Marley, what rights are these? The police investigate an alleged crime and in a process of elimination, are satisfied that OP is not responsible.

Do we now, when the next crime is committed, say "I am sorry officer; you cannot come round my house on door to door enquiries as I have my rights"

Common sense should prevail in this situation, and probably Morrison’s do not even have a clue who the Police have interviewed, unless they have a direct access to the DVLA database nowadays, so what has Morrison’s got to do with the Police establishing facts about this case. (Note after I was involved in a minor skirmish with anotehr car who drove off, the Police did not rush round telling me who the otehr driver was, even though no charges were issued and it was settled out of court, I still only have their insurance details!)

Everyone has rights; some just forget to engage their common sense button now and then.
