My word, there are a lot of bitter, joyless people on this thread. Anyone would think they came here just to have a good moan.

Joykin etc, nobody was trying to deceive you. The Mexx frames were in a daily offer, as explained repeatedly. Furthermore, Groupon has a seven-day cancellation policy on the vouchers. Do you not read small print? Perhaps you need some glasses.

The reps from Groupon and Glasses Direct, thanks for taking the time to participate on these threads. It's nice to see companies taking an active interest in their customers.

(No, I'm not a company stooge, I'm just a punter who's bought several vouchers from Groupon and hasn't had a bad experience, and I'm waiting for a seven-day frame trial from GD before I place an order with them.)

Please note, if you're ordering a hometrial *do not* enter your voucher code when ordering your hometrial, as that is already free.

Only use it when you actually order the frame.

    HAVE TO AGREE.
People love a whinge. If you dont like the offer just get your money back, you havent lost anything. You always get the odd whinge bag though that spits out the dummy when they dont get what they want.

Ordering wasnt easy. The site was slow but i expected that. as for the frames, of course the best ones will be sod out! duh!
I also liked the mexx frames but i saw some other glasses i liked.

    1 x J Lindeberg Tethys 9-fl - havanna £49.00
    1 x J Lindeberg Tethys 9-fl - Black £49.00
    Sub-total: £98.00
    Discount: £-98.00
    Delivery: £0.00
    Total: £0.00Inc.
    VAT at 17.5% £7.30

    All this for £20!

Thanks Groupon and thanks glasses direct. I now await my lenses. By the way the delivery charge is added to your order but mine came to exactly the total on the coupon so i paid nada.

    Hi there,

I've checked what happened with those Mexx frames. They were in our 'Crazy deals of the Day' which changes regularly throughout the week. I've asked for the Mexx 5353 and Lindberg Maginus frames mentioned to be put back into crazy deals today.

There was no intention to deceive, and that range changes regularly so it will be worth checking back during the period that the voucher is active to see what new frames are available in the 'crazy deals' category. Currently there are other Lindberg and Benetton frames in that category all with £40 off, and the Mexx & Lindberg frames mentioned will be back in there very soon.

I hope that helps explain what happened.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your help ref. Mexx frames.

It's 6:45pm now and they are not at £49 yet, i actually can't see them on your website at all!

I assume they will be put up soon though. I will be patient.

    Regards, Tom

Tom, I did that early this morning before 10am, and posted to that effect, I'm afraid they've sold out since then! :embarasse

  • How often do Groupon do this offer? I had planned to buy glasses for GD but obviously don't want to pay over the odds if this offer is likely to come round again in a reasonable time frame. anyone know? thanks

The previous offer (£9 for £39) was about 1 month before.

So maybe this time next month another offer?

Can i assume that they will come back into stock before my voucher expires, you said you had 1000's in your warehouse?

QUOTE If you do find the site slower than you'd like, then feel free to come back over the weekend or next week when things may be faster. We've got plenty of stock on the site. Around 100-150 styles/colours at £49 & £59 and many many thousands of pairs in stock in our warehouse. QUOTE

It seems so many people jusp to the conclusion that they are being ripped off, that it's all a scam and take offence when things wobble a bit. Yes, there have been a couple of disappointments - but I've been impressed to see both GD reps and Groupon monitoring this forum and even better, dealing with issues to customers satisfaction, That's professional, and good business.

Given that 3300 glasses were sold in the promo, that must stretch GD and the website pretty much - especially if buyers all rush to place order immediately, probably thinking that stocks will run out if they delay. So, it;d be good to have some info on this from GD, and if there are regular supplies coming in, then why not wait? The voucher is good for a month, and that'd allow time for an eye test and home trial on frames - I'm guessing that frames that went out of stock in the initial rush will reappear shortly, so why panic?

Oh, and are these vouchers transferable? I had mentioned this deal to a couple of friends - one said "can't, I've not had eye-test recently" and other said "online sales never do powerful enough lenses for me" Checking it out, both could be accommodated, and are kicking themselves for not buying. So if they could take up vouchers that others would otherwise have refunded, is that ok?

Lastly, a query about my own purchase - I bought reading and "intermediate" glasses on a recent GD promotion, the addition being a simple +1 for intermediate and +2 for reading, same for both eyes. But I'm finding these are too strong for what I need. I've had cataract surgery in one eye, awaiting surgery in other eye, which is progressivly deteriorating. I find the rerading pair are good for close work, if a little close for reading a paper, and the intermediates are ok for general deskwork - but I was really hoping that focus would stay fairly sharp to around 4-6ft, but at 4ft it's quite out of focus, and that is a distance that I frequently need good vision. Can the "additions" be adjusted to provide this?

Oh, and finally finally - gotta say "I wuz gutted" :) to see that one of the £49 frames I chose in the last promo is now only £19 - but I took a chance on it, doesn't suit me but my mistake!:D
