Only 2 left in my local Argos so i've ordered one of them, but i'm a bit worried after reading the last couple of posts if my HM bread will fit.

I've got a Panasonic bread maker and I use that for the smallest loaf. It fits in the slicer ok but it tears at the bread even when its cold. I did some cheese on it and that was amazing but I really wanted it for bread so a bit dissapointed.

Was just wondering Lavenderlady if you managed to change your non-folding slicer to the white cookworks folding one.

My bread-maker isn't great, making overly crusty bread. I put a one and a half pound loaf from it, slowly through the slicer with no problem. I needed to use the blades fastest speed setting, whereas meat and cheese were fine on the slower blade setting.
Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.
Weekly aim: to include 2 portions of fish (one oily), some nuts, seeds, beans and pulses.

    There's two speeds???

Then its probably totally my error! I'm made up with flu at the moment and even getting off the sofa is an effort so I haven't used it since nor taken it back.

Mine is the stainless steel one. It sort of chewed on the edge of the bread and managed to not bother cutting the middle. From my experience with it there's no way I would keep it. However I've read so many good reviews so maybe I'm using the wrong speed?
  • update from my experience with the white food slicer....used it yesterday for roast pork...fantastic,realy makes the joint "stretch",got loads left for packed lunches too...and i tried it with a small loaf and it worked well...I think apart from my first loaf being too tall,I was also trying to cut it too thin...think it would be ideal for round or bloomer type loaves, but im happy to keep it for meat,I think it will save me a wee fortune on meat for packed lunches...thanks again OP.

  • Meat being so expensive, I agree cooking-mama, it goes a lot further now. Feel I can afford a joint now, knowing I can get so much out of it. Kids and OH enjoying real meat sandwiches too, hooray.

Hope you feel better soon Lavenderlady. The white cookworks slicer has 3 speed settings for the blade, where the On/Off button is. Not sure if yours is the same.

  • I just dragged myself into the kitchen to have a look and there's definately no alternative speed setting. I've checked the manual and it doesn't mention it there either.

Looks like i've been given a cheaper alternative because it doesn't fold up either

I tried cutting the bread on the widest setting so it wasn't anything to do with cutting too thin. It looks to me that the white one may be the better option?
  • Oooh what a good idea.. never thought of buying one of these but have read reviews and this sounds really good. Have just reserved a white one and looking forward to a Sunday roast!!

Might be worth changing it for the white one when you are feeling better :).

I would have liked the silver one but I missed this as I have only found this thread! Thanks op!

I wonder is there any chance the silver one will be reduced before Christmas again as it states in the listing

I was correct, the stainless one is now selling at £19.99, £5 less than last month. I have one reserved at one of my local Argos stores! I must make sure I get the one I am supposed to after reading the issues some had getting the one they had paid for.

This price is valid until 9th NOVEMBER 2010!

    HTH someone!
