Did any of the people who had the non folding one manage to get a different one when they returned it? I'm not able to get into town until next week so may just end up keeping this one.
I've got a loaf in the Panny at the moment and I'm going to have a go at slicing that. However i've just noticed that the blade is smooth and not serrated, will it even cut bread??0 -
It might be worth contacting Argos beforehand if you decide to return, just to make sure you are not let down. This link to their customer service contacts might help:

Took the non folding stainless steel one back today. They had a look for another one but it was the same.
They knew it was a substituted item and said I should have been told when I bought it.I want to be credit card and loan free by Christmas 20100 -
Hmmm mine is rubbish at homemade bread :-(
I tried to make sure I kept the bread level but it really struggled. I think its going back.
But its fab for cheese and its certainly got me excited at slicing so I may check out ebay for a second hand commercial one!0 -

I bought the cheaper one, cooked a £7 joint of beef on saturday, fed 2 very hungry men for sunday dinner and theres loads left for my fellas packed lunch (at least 3-4 days worth) before it would cost me £2 to buy sliced beef for 1 days packed lunch0

I sliced a tiger loaf today (50p too!) into 29 slices. Took my time with it, and cut it into 3 sections first so it would fit through. Great.
Agree with you Miss Laid regarding how much further you can make a joint of meat go, reckon my slicer is paying for itself already. It was through reading an old style thread that made me decide to look out for one.
If it helps anyone worried about being given an inferior substitution by the store, the £14.99 comes in a bright blue box with a very clear photo of the slicer on (like the one on the web), as well as the words 'Cookworks Food slicer' on it.Healthy eating aim per day: 3 fruits, 3 or more vegetables, 3 low-fat dairy portions, 3 starch portions, 2-3 lean protein portions.

I got the white one..."shredded"my loaf last night(loaf was too big i think...taller than the blade),I think this may only be OK for bloomer/long tiger type loaves...what else is everyone using this for?Slimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

I'm the same, it made a real mess of my homemade loaf. It wasn't that it was higher than the slicer, just that the slicer struggled. I think I need one with a serrated edge.0
