Not sure how long these deals will last, or if I am late catching on, but argos cookworks food/meat slicers are half price here...

Other than the colour and price can anyone see any difference between the white and stainless steel one please?

I have the plastic one, I use it for slicing HM bread, it's very good. Gutted that I paid full price.
  • Thank you so much I'm absolutely hopeless at slicing meat, I end up with 1 in thick dods, I had one of these about 30 years ago ,but my OH lent it to someone and I never got it back, so we've been eating dods for years.

If you didn't have Glasgow in your location I'd still know you were a weegie :p I haven't heard the word dods since I left Glasgow 25 years ago :D

Thanks for this - I know this is not really the place to ask but thinking someone may know ... do you think something like this or an electric knife with a guide would be better at slicing homemade bread? TIA x

  • Thanks for this tip. Got one reserved to give my daughter for christmas cos I know she buys a ham joint and then uses the rest for sandwiches for wrk so this should help her make it go further.

I bought my mother one of these years ago as she used to buy an ox tongue and boil it then press it and finally slice it. Not my favourite sliced meat but it saved her loads. I bet you would have to order specially from the butchers but worth thinking about if you have one of these slicers.

Thanks, I just reserved one. The plastic one has bad reviews, it seems difficult to clean. So, I reserved the other one!

I was worried about that, but on the strength of an argos reviewer's advice ( Paul from South Glam. on page 2 of reviewers), on how to remove the face plate (which does have a dishwasher logo on it) I bought the cheaper cookworks one this morning.

I have easily been able to unassemble, wash thoroughly, and reassemble the whole thing today. For some reason the instruction booklet does not show the particular step the reviewer helpfully mentions, hence other reviews stating 'fiddly to clean', which in fact it isn't. Will contact Argos about this. I am very happy with purchase. The other one looks good too though! :)
