Have been trying to find out the best way to unblock a drain, had heard that soda crystals can work and while I was looking into it found a site called The Green Store online - It's got loads of uses! Glad I have got some in my cupboard.....don't know why it's there - until today I didn't know what it could be used for!

For tips, go here and choose the relevant room.

If the drain is really blocked, soda crystals may not clear it. Best to use a decent plunger initially. Once it's clear start using soda crystals to prevent further blockages. Most blockages are due to a build up of fat and grease which traps other stuff. Soda crystals dissolve fat and grease, so help stop the cause. Prevention is better than cure :A

But, conversely, are also the major constituent of most bath salts. Can't go wrong really!

Bath salts are actually predominantly sodium sesquicarbonate....so just a relative of soda crystals (sodium carbonate decahydrate) More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_sesquicarbonate

just wondering if any of you know - are they antibacterial? after spending 2.5 hours cleaning the kitchen with them, i just wondered if they actually killed the germs, or do i have to go over again with antibac spray?!?! :o

They are anti-bacterial towards bacteria that are pH sensitive - such as foot & mouth - but not all bacteria.

I'll tell you what, I wish I could invent an antibacterial spray that can kill 0.1% of bacteria....the other 0.1% that are missed by the sprays that claim to kill 99.9% of bateria :rotfl:

What is your MAIN use for Soda Crystals powder?

It would also be interesting to know if you thing that a 1kg bag is big enough...or do they sit in your cupboard for months or years not getting used?

1kg is definitely not big enough. I have noticed though that in the past 3 years or so, the price on them has skyrocketed :(

Thanks to those that have voted so far. I must admit, I often forget to put it in the washing machine - I use it mainly for cleaning food burnt on pots and pans and for greasy tins.

Keep on with the voting folks :T
