Hey Guys and Gals
Got highly excited whilst shopping with hubby because I seen soda crystals...........bought some and now dont know what you use them for! :rotfl:
Can they do anything for a bath that the water takes forever to drain away?!
New to all this as you can see!
Thanks
Linz xoxoxIts hard to wait around for that something you know may never happen, but its harder to give up when you know its everything you ever wanted.........
People tell me Im going the wrong way..............when its simply a way of my own!0 -
Before all the gang come on and tell you about mixing them with washing powder to eke it out etc, where did you get the soda and how much?? It's getting short and expensive where I am.0

Hi LoopyLinz
There's an earlier thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep the suggestions together.
maman, this thread may help you: Advice - where do I get soda crystals etc?

Take a big handful of crystals, put them over the plughole and pour on a kettle-full of boiling water. This helps in the kitchen sink where the problem could be a build-up of grease, but TBH in the bathroom, it's more likely to be a build-up of hair in the drain.
I usually get a crochet hook and have a poke around........it's quite disgusting how much black, slimy gunge comes up mingled with masses of hair :eek:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I was in Robert Dyas yesterday and saw a 1kg bag of soda crystals (green one just like the first post on here) for over a pound I think it was £1.39! Us OSers are being got at what with this and the shortage of red lentils!0 -
i got my soda crystals a couple of weeks ago, and my kitchen is now gleaming!! :j
i didnt bother measuring - i just threw a load into a basin with hot water. the guy who lived in our flat before us must have cooked a lot of greasy food, and never cleaned up properly, so there were greasy splats on the tiles and cupboards around the cooker that i had never been able to remove properly -well, the soda crystals got rid of them with only a tiny bit of elbow grease!! hooray!! my mum now has them to try & clean up her cream leather sofa.
just wondering if any of you know - are they antibacterial? after spending 2.5 hours cleaning the kitchen with them, i just wondered if they actually killed the germs, or do i have to go over again with antibac spray?!?!
TIA!! xx0 -
i got my soda crystals yesterday!!! just done kitchen plug holes with half a bag (to think that i used to spend ages unscrewing it all and cleaning it with a toothbrush!!)
have also done bathroom and think that we may have quite a bit of hair stuck so got quite a bit out with coathanger and have used the end of an ancient tube of immac to get the rest!
i have just washed up an old plastic 4 pint milk bottle and will decant my remaining bags into there (was wondering where i should store it so the cats cant tip it everywhere!)it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:0 -

Well, they're approved by DEFRA for killing foot & mouth disease so they obviously have some bug fighting properties. Borax is very similar to soda crystals and they are a natural disinfectant - but they cost more.
There's a lot of marketing hype surrounding these anti-bacterial sprays. There's an argument for saying that living in TOO sterile an environment isn't good long term for you and your family; the body is losing it's natural defences!
The thing with a lot of the ingredients in chemical sprays is that they classed as 'safe' when in solution, but what happens after you spray a surface and the main ingredient - Aqua (that's water to you and me!) evaporates? It leaves a nice concentrated layer, just waiting for you to put that next slice of bread on!:rolleyes:0 -
Hi Hello! I hope no one minds me dragging up a blast from the past, but I thought I'd add to this thread rather than make a new one!
One of my christmas pressies was a book of thrift :j and it recommended the use of soda crystals.
My question is; I recently got myself a house rabbit and I've noticed that my kitchen is developing a rabbity smell - he has a house with a plastic bottom (like an oversized hamster cage) and in the corners where he does his business there are yellowish stains which I think may be harbouring some scent. People have suggested to use bleach but I worry about the effects it may have on my little critter. Does anyone have any experience or know if soda crystals are safe to use around animals?
Thanks everyone x0
