Contary to the (almost threatening) PM I've had, I started this as its something I'ver often though as an MSEer.
there is an abuse button on all pm's which would be the correct way to report it

I also think that personal alliegences and leanings should be disclosed. After all, how can one be impartial or even fair if one has an interest or affiliation to a certain person or subject.
MrsE if you have had a pm which you consider abusive you should post it here, anonymity is the refuge of the coward, if you have to say it by pm and cannot say it on the thread there is clearly something you dont wish others to see about the content of the message. Name and shame.
posting private messages on the forum is against the rules and people have been ppr'd for doing this in the past
however no one should have to put up with abuse (on the boards) or via pm, anything like that should be reported to abuse

Fair enough, content and tone is subjective, but personally I always follow the rule that if i couldnt say it on an open forum I dont say it.
PM's to me are for communications between those who have formed some kind of "bond" on the boards and want to "speak" about private issues, not for expressing opinions on a topic. Of course that is just my opinion.0 -

I accept that is the policy but imo anyone who sends an abusive message should know they may be outed, if that was the case many would think twice.0 -
I always leave my sig in, I'd never remember to remove it every single time so if I forgot occasionally then those 'personal' posts would look 'official'
I also try very hard not to get involved in discussions where I may be seen as taking sides as a 'mere mortal'especially on the boards I'm a BG on, that's a personal decision so that hopefully my BG'ing is seen as impartial
You do a good job, Glad. And well done! (Re bottom of your signature.)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
I suppose eventually a sound and well thought out argument should win out ,even if one side tries to influence the result by using there authority.
On here like elsewhere the point can be lost by aggressive chatter.
This is really the same as the MSE cliques argument ...People often use any advantage to win the point .
It is unfair , but the whole world is the same , and on the occasion the shoe is on the other foot most people don't complain.0 -

I am a longtime lurker and sometime poster on these forums who was just giving her my POV, privately, as I felt it was more appropriate, not because I am a coward seeking refuge in anonymity.
As I said, if MrsE wants to make my PM public on here she can, I have named myself and I have nothing to be shamed about. Hope that clears things up.

The real question here though is:
Why did you care enough about this subject to post a PM?"None are more hopelessly enslaved, than those who falsely believe they are free." - Goethe0 -

When I was a boardguide, I used to get lots of pms from people asking for help to navigate the site and find things they needed. I'm sure lots of people spotted that I was able to help because they saw my signature on non BG posts.
I agree with that too

i dont see the point really
i moderate on another forum(yes i know they're not mods) and we use different coloured usernames to denote who is who
it means members can tell my 'status' and will often PM me for advice on forum matters etc after seeing one of my posts
The BG sigs allow the same0 -

I can't honestly understand why anyone would be intimidated by the fact someone is a Board Guide...if I think someone is wrong or being a prat then I will tell them regardless of some signature which I won't even bother to read.:rotfl:"None are more hopelessly enslaved, than those who falsely believe they are free." - Goethe0
